PRIORITY FILING DEADLINE

*Applications are accepted for adjunct faculty pools for a period of one year from the filing priority deadline date. If the department has an immediate need to add candidates to their pool, they will review applications received by the priority deadline date. All applications received after the priority deadline will remain on file for the next review by the department, or for up to one year. If the department does not have an immediate need to add candidates to their pool, all applications will remain on file until the need arises, or for up to one year. If selected for interview, candidates will be invited to meet with a committee. If selected for the pool, candidates remain in the pool for a period of two years.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The SRJC Child Development Department has the reputation of being one of the most innovative ECE programs in California. Each semester our department offers over 75 different sections of courses to about 2,000 students. We now employ 5 full-time faculty and 25 adjunct faculty. The Children's Center/Lab School has 20 regular Classified employees. We offer courses that are both vocationally oriented and those that are transferable to meet general education requirements in both the CSU and the UC systems. Our department has a deep commitment to meeting the needs of our community through the improvement of quality of early childhood education and other children's programs.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

ADJUNCT POOL DESCRIPTION

We are accepting applications for instructors for inclusion in a pool who have the ability to teach in one or more of the following areas (there are no anticipated needs for 2012/13):

Child Development:

  • Child Related Careers
  • Child, Family Community Interrelationships
  • Children with Special Needs
  • Curriculum Classes (including School Age)
  • Developmental Stages of Childhood
  • Development Trends of Infants/Toddlers
  • Early Childhood Methods
  • Health & Safety
  • Introduction to Early Childhood Education
  • Management of ECE Program

Foster & Kinship Care Education and Independent Living:

  • Foster and Kinship Care
  • Independent Living

Assignments could involve full or partial assignment at any of the District?s sites or off-campus locations, and could involve any combination of day, evening or weekend classes, with office hours being mandatory. Adjunct faculty are responsible for maintaining currency in their field(s) of expertise. All faculty are encouraged to participate in updating existing courses (including courses that serve community needs, such as short, non-credit, or on-line courses); assisting in the assessment of student learning outcomes; participating in departmental activities and other college service such as committee work; and participating in community outreach on behalf of the college.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required for Child Development: Master's Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Human Development, Home Economics/Family and Consumer Studies with a specialization in Child Development/Early Childhood Education, Educational Psychology with a specialization in Child Development/Early Childhood Education; OR Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND Master's Degree in Social Work, Educational Supervision, Elementary Education, Special Education, Psychology, Bilingual/Bicultural Education, Life Management/Home Economics, Family Life Studies, or Family and Consumer Studies; OR the equivalent; OR a fully satisfied (Life) California Community College Instructor's Credential in Nursery School and Pre-school Education, or Professional Education.

Preferred for Child Development:

  1. Experience in the management and administration of Child Development programs.
  2. Primary grade (K-3) experience.
Required for Foster & Kinship Care Education and Independent Living: Bachelor's degree and two years full-time (or part-time equivalent) experience in the discipline; OR Associate's degree and six years full-time (or part-time equivalent) experience in the discipline; OR the equivalent; OR a fully satisfied (Life) California Community College Instructors Credential in Consumer & Family Education (for Foster & Kinship Care Education or Independent Living).

Preferred for Foster & Kinship Care Education: Bachelor's Degree in Child Development and/or Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or related field AND two years full-time (or part-time equivalent) experience as a foster, adoptive or kinship parent or social work with abused or neglected children; OR Associate's degree AND six years full-time (or part-time equivalent) experience as a foster, adoptive or kinship parent, and/or experience in a related field, such as, shelter home or residential programs, or social work with abused or neglected children.

Preferred for Independent Living: Bachelor's Degree in Child Development, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or a related field AND two years full-time (or part-time equivalent) experience as a foster, adoptive or kinship parent or social work with adolescents in out of home care; OR Associates degree AND six years full-time (or part-time equivalent) experience as a foster, adoptive or kinship parent, and/or experience in a related field, such as, shelter home or residential programs, or social work with adolescents in out of home care.

Preferred for all areas:

  1. English/Spanish bilingual skills.
  2. Background in Special Needs issues.

Required for all areas: Sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

  1. A completed Santa Rosa Junior College Faculty Application Form, Personal Data Form and Applicant Notification Form. Voluntary Data Form is optional.
    • If applicable, completed Equivalency Form and supporting documents.
  2. A statement describing your demonstrated experience in understanding and being sensitive to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.
  3. A brief cover letter focusing on the required and preferred qualifications and explaining your interest in the pool (please specify which area(s) you are interested in being considered for).
  4. Current Resume.
  5. Copies of transcripts of all college level course work (unofficial copies acceptable (both sides), but official transcripts must be submitted prior to hiring). If transcripts are from an institution outside of the United States, applicants must provide a formal evaluation of their foreign degree(s) at the time of application.   6. If applicable, copy of California Community College Credential (both sides).

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • For Unit A (AFA) Faculty, salary placement may be based on academic background, vocational experience, and teaching experience depending on discipline and as documented in application materials. Initial Step placement will be a Step 1 pending evaluation of experience as outlined in Article 27 of the AFA Contract.

  • Sick Leave Accrual: Adjunct faculty members accrue sick leave on a pro-rated basis.

The office is located in the Button Building on the college campus and is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The Screening Committee may include representatives from the Faculty, the Administration, the Classified Staff, the Student Body, and the Board of Trustees.

Although Santa Rosa Junior College does not reimburse candidates for expenses related to the first interview, candidates traveling from out of the area for administrative or full-time faculty positions who are selected as finalists will be offered a travel stipend for their administrative interview(s).

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT (Prior to beginning employment):
