The College Skills/Tutorial Department of Santa Rosa Junior College is accepting applications for a pool of qualified candidates with demonstrated instructional skills to join an outstanding team of faculty and administrators to provide high quality programs and services to our district, our community, and, most importantly, to our students. Teaching assignments may be temporary, part-time and/or on-call and may be immediate or as needed (as specified in Education Code Section 87482.5).
The College Skills/Tutorial Department at Santa Rosa Junior College offers developmental-level reading, writing, and math classes plus tutorial services at both the Santa Rosa and Petaluma campuses. In addition, the department offers noncredit, open-entry basic skills classes at several locations in the county in both English and Spanish. Computer-assisted instruction is an integral part of College Skills classes. The staff is composed of 7 full-time faculty, 56 adjunct faculty, and 18 classified employees.
ADJUNCT POOL DESCRIPTION
We are accepting applications for instructors for inclusion in a pool who are qualified to instruct in one or more of the following areas (there are needs for needs for 2012/13):
Teach Basic Skills classes in Reading, Writing and Mathematics (including non-credit and credit courses), in both English and bilingual settings.
Utilize online instruction, computer-assisted instruction, and other delivery methodologies.
Diagnose student needs, create learning plans, and assess progress for individual students.
Complete records and reports as requested for administrative purposes.
Maintain student consultation time (based on instructional hours) and fulfill required staff development obligations.
The department is also seeking individuals who are qualified to tutor as least two of these areas:
All levels of math
Sciences including chemistry
Assignments could involve partial assignment at any of the District's sites or off-campus locations, and could involve any combination of day or evening assignments with office hours being mandatory. Adjunct faculty are also responsible for maintaining currency in their field(s) of expertise. Optionally, adjunct faculty are encouraged to have some participation in updating existing courses (including courses that serve community needs, such as short, non-credit, or online courses); assisting in the assessment of student learning outcomes; participating in department activities and other college service such as committee work; and participating in community outreach on behalf of the college.
Required for Credit: Master's degree in any Social Science, Humanities (including Foreign Languages), Mathematics, or Natural Science, or Liberal Studies; OR Master's Degree in Education with coursework in Reading, Math or English as appropriate for the course; OR the equivalent; OR a fully satisfied (life) California Community College Instructor's Credential in Basic Education.
Required for Non-Credit: Bachelor's degree in any Social Science, Humanities (including Foreign Languages), Mathematics, Natural Science or Liberal Studies; OR the equivalent; OR a fully satisfied (Life) California Community College Instructor's Credential in Basic Education.
Preferred for all areas:
Recent training, tutoring experience, or teaching experience in one or more areas of the College Skills/Tutorial curriculum at the college level.
Familiarity with a variety of pre-collegiate Basic Skills curricula.
Knowledge of special populations.
Fluency in Spanish.
Experience in online teaching.
Required for all areas: Sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

For Unit A (AFA) Faculty, salary placement may be based on academic background, vocational experience, and teaching experience depending on discipline and as documented in application materials. Initial Step placement will be a Step 1 pending evaluation of experience as outlined in Article 27 of the AFA Contract.
Sick Leave Accrual: Adjunct faculty members accrue sick leave on a pro-rated basis.
