* Applications are accepted for adjunct faculty pools for a period of one year from the filing priority deadline date. If the department has an immediate need to add candidates to their pool, they will review applications received by the priority deadline date. All applications received after the priority deadline will remain on file for the next review by the department, or for up to one year. If the department does not have an immediate need to add candidates to their pool, all applications will remain on file until the need arises, or for up to one year. If selected for interview, candidates will be invited to meet with a committee. If selected for the pool, candidates remain in the pool for a period of two years.
The Doyle and Mahoney Libraries of Santa Rosa Junior College are seeking a pool of qualified candidates with demonstrated instructional skills to join an outstanding team of faculty and administrators to provide high quality programs and services to our district, our community, and most importantly to our students. Teaching assignments may be temporary, part-time and/or on-call and may be immediate or as needed (as specified in Education Code Section 87482.5).
Library Services at Santa Rosa Junior College provides a diverse array of instructional support services district-wide. There are two library facilities: Doyle Library at the Santa Rosa campus and Mahoney Library at the Petaluma campus. Instructional collections include over 142,000 book holdings, over 400 current print subscriptions, and 30 electronic databases. All holdings are available through a union catalog and accessible via the Web. The library instructional program emphasizes instruction in the areas of information competency and effective research methods. There are over 700 students enrolled per semester, and faculty librarians teach all classes.
ADJUNCT POOL DESCRIPTION
We are seeking instructors for inclusion in a pool who have the ability to teach in one or more of the following areas (there are no anticipated needs for 2012/13):
Reference Librarians: Provide reference assistance to students, faculty and staff. Duties may include conducting library orientation sessions, developing instructional materials, performing online database searches and providing instruction in use of electronic and online indexes, catalogs and internet workstations. Duties will often include evening, weekend and holiday hours.
Instructional Librarians: Instructional Librarians Must have the ability to teach in one or more of the following areas:
- Term Paper Research
- Effective Searching Techniques for the World Wide Web
- Searching Techniques for Computer Databases
- Information Literacy content
Assignments could involve full or partial assignment at any of the District?s sites or off-campus locations, and could involve any combination of day or evening classes with office hours being mandatory. Adjunct faculty are also responsible for maintaining currency in their field(s) of expertise. Optionally, adjunct faculty are encouraged to have some participation in updating existing courses (including courses that serve community needs, such as short, non-credit, or on-line courses); assisting in the assessment of student learning outcomes; participating in department activities and other college service such as committee work; and participating in community outreach on behalf of the college.
Required: Master's Degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science from an ALA (American Library Association) accredited institution; OR the equivalent; OR a fully satisfied (Life) California Community College Credential in Library Science.
- Experience in providing service at an academic library Reference Desk.
- Experience in providing instruction via workshops or courses in Information Literacy.
Requires a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

- For Unit A (AFA) Faculty, salary placement may be based on academic background, vocational experience, and teaching experience depending on discipline and as documented in application materials. Initial Step placement will be a Step 1 pending evaluation of experience as outlined in Article 27 of the AFA Contract.
- Sick Leave Accrual: Adjunct faculty members accrue sick leave on a pro-rated basis.
