GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Santa Rosa Junior College is seeking an individual with demonstrated management skills to join an outstanding team of faculty, staff and administrators to provide high quality services to our District, our community, and most importantly to our students. This is a regular, full-time educational administrator position.

Under general direction, has principal administrative responsibility for the instructional cluster of programs under his or her supervision as assigned by the Vice President Academic Affairs/Assistant Superintendent: Associate Degree Nursing, Dental Assisting, Dental Hygiene, Licensed Vocational Nursing, Medical Assistant, Community Health Worker, Certified Nurse Assistant/ Home Health Aide, Pharmacy Technician, Phlebotomy, Radiologic Technology, the Dental Clinic, Health Learning Resource Center (HLRC), Nursing Skills Lab and other assigned and related departments including the HOPE Center. Additionally, the Dean functions as the primary contact with department chairs, directors, and coordinators with regard to budget, curriculum, schedule, program development, and staffing issues. Initiates, coordinates, and/or supervises major educational initiatives related to the liberal arts and sciences and to vocational programs, such as developmental education, student learning outcomes, and others as identified. Initiates and maintains relationships with all local health care agencies and facilities. In consultation with the immediate supervisor, the Dean provides administrative supervision of all faculty, classified support staff, STNCs and students who are employed in the departments supervised by the Dean.

This position is contingent upon funding and Board approval.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Abilities and Knowledge:

The ability to plan and organize large, complex tasks; supervise the work of assigned staff; relate effectively with a wide diversity of students, faculty, staff and community members; work in an atmosphere of collegial decision-making; demonstrate consensus-building skills; communicate clearly, both orally and in writing; advocate for the Districts programs and services; demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for, a diverse population.

The knowledge of community college curriculum and the promotion and development of instructional programs; instructional pedagogy; learning theory and student characteristics; equal opportunity employment, hiring, and evaluation policies and procedures; student services programs; budget processes; interpreting and enforcing faculty and classified collective bargaining contracts; legal and regulatory climate in California community colleges; State Boards and accreditation policy for each program; program review and evaluation processes.

Preferred ability/knowledge:

  • Familiarity with health sciences accrediting/licensing bodies
  • Familiarity with the California Education Code

Required Education/Experience:

  • Master's Degree
  • Ability to meet minimum qualifications for current SRJC faculty discipline
  • One year of formal training, or leadership experience reasonably related to this assignment
  • Requires a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Previous leadership experience in an academic setting
  • Experience serving as a liaison to community and clinical health sites
  • Experience as a healthcare professional

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Participates in educational planning and policy development in conjunction with the other academic deans; serves as primary contact with assigned department chairs, directors, and coordinators; works with assigned departments/programs on curriculum development and review; works with assigned departments on short and long-term program planning, review and evaluation; supervises the development of the schedule of classes for his/her cluster, monitors enrollment and faculty loads; assists with recruitment, selection and evaluation of faculty and classified staff; evaluates department chairs/directors within the cluster; in consultation with departments within the cluster, prepares and monitors program budgets; receives, reviews and facilitates resolution for student, faculty or staff complaints; provides administrative support to the learning communities campus-wide; serves on standing and ad hoc committees as required; prepares reports as needed for presentation to the Board of Trustees; represents the District in local, regional and state-wide instructional meetings and committees; perform other duties as assigned by the Dean, Career and Technical Education & Economic Development or other Vice President of Academic Affairs/Assistant Superintendent designee; represents the District to program-specific accreditation teams and licensing boards; fundraise and write grants for the cluster.

SCOPE

The Dean, Health Sciences, contributes to the development of policies and procedures pertaining to the instructional program of the District, and under the general direction of the Dean, Career and Technical Education & Economic Development or other Vice President of Academic Affairs/Assistant Superintendent designee has major responsibility for interpretation and implementation of these policies and procedures, including the selection and evaluation of faculty and classified staff, curriculum development, scheduling of classes, and program budget development and monitoring.

  5. Copies of transcripts of all college level course work. Unofficial copies (both sides) are acceptable, but official transcripts must be submitted prior to hiring. If transcripts are from an institution outside of the United States, applicants must provide a formal evaluation of their foreign degree(s) at the time of application. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • Salary Range: $8,805 - $10,567 per month (2013/14 Management Salary Schedule); maximum initial placement at $9,686 per month (placement within this range is based on assessment of previous experience as documented in application materials). An additional 2% compensation will be added to the base salary for an earned doctorate degree.

  • Fringe benefits: The District offers a competitive benefit package which includes health & welfare (medical/dental/vision/life/long-term disability) benefits for employees and eligible dependents.

  • Leave/Holiday time: Management employees earn 1 day of sick leave and 1.8333 days of vacation for each month worked. They are also entitled to holidays recognized by the District (14 holidays/year).

The office is located in the Button Building on the college campus and is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT (Prior to beginning employment):

  4. Must take a TB test (once hired and every four years thereafter).
