GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Santa Rosa Junior College is seeking an individual with demonstrated instructional skills to join an outstanding team of faculty and instructional administrators to provide high quality programs and services to our district, our community, and most importantly, our students. This is a full-time, regular contract position in the Agriculture/Natural Resources Department at Santa Rosa Junior College, beginning Fall Semester, August 2013. Appointments are contingent upon funding and Board approval.
DEPARTMENT/PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Agriculture Program at Santa Rosa Junior College is made up of seven full-time and over twenty five adjunct instructors teaching to over 2,500 students. This is the largest community college agriculture program in California, and has been recognized as the California Agriculture Teachers Association 2010 Outstanding Agriculture Community College Program. The instructional program comprises over fifteen diversified program areas serving the needs of vocational and transfer students, including the SRJC Shone Farm, consisting of over 365 acres of land, which offers learning by doing application in the various laboratories of the programs. Included in the farm operations are 72 acres of wine grapes, a bonded winery, 17 acres sustainable agriculture vegetables and fruit, 100 acres of pasture for cow/calf, sheep and horse herds, 120 acres of timber, and 50 acres of multi-use land. The Richard L. Thomas classroom was constructed on the farm in 2002 and the Warren G. Dutton Ag Pavilion opened in 2007 to facilitate further growth in the Agriculture/Natural Resources Department at Santa Rosa Junior College.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The program coordinators duties may include, but are not limited to the following: provide instruction that is current, relevant, and utilizes hands-on innovative instructional techniques and resources; develop curriculum for use in traditional lecture-lab formats, as well as day and evening specialty short courses; develop course and program level student learning outcomes; conduct learning assessment projects. Serve as liaison to Shone Farm management and staff with respect to courses scheduled at the farm and the interface between instruction and farm operations; schedule Agribusiness courses to optimize student enrollment. Assist in Ag/NR department planning including and make recommendations regarding the acquisition of equipment and supplies; participate in the selection, supervision, evaluation and coordination of adjunct faculty and support staff; attend and participate in professional organizations, seminars and activities to promote the Agribusiness program; coordinate and cooperate with government regulatory agencies and private firms related to Shone Farm products; maintain currency with the current local, state, and national trends related to Agricultural Business; effectively market the program for recruitment of appropriate students; coordinate the Agribusiness Advisory Committee; communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; and effectively use appropriate technology and equipment.
The faculty member should be able to teach courses that give students the knowledge & skills in areas that include but are not limited to agricultural marketing and management, food and fiber distribution systems, value-added agriculture, and agricultural market structure and performance; teaching assignments may include, but are not limited to Introduction to Agricultural Business, Agricultural Marketing, Agriculture Economics, Agriculture Computer Applications, Agricultural Policy, Agricultural Accounting, Agriculture Sales & Communication, Farm Organization and Management, and Agriculture Leadership.
SRJC offers courses at two campuses, located in Santa Rosa and Petaluma, as well as multiple satellite locations within the district, including online. While your primary assignment may be for the Santa Rosa Campus, please note the district reserves the right of assignment to any location, and that assignments could involve any combination of day or evening classes with weekly office hours being mandatory.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required: Bachelor's degree AND two years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) related experience; OR an Associates degree AND six years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) related experience; OR the equivalent; OR a fully satisfied (Life) California Community College Instructors Credential in Agricultural Services and Processing. Requires a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Preferred:
- Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in a field or major related to Agribusiness or Agricultural Economics.

- Five years of practical experience in Agribusiness

- Copies of transcripts of all college level course work. Unofficial copies (both sides) are acceptable, but official transcripts must be submitted prior to hiring. - Provide a syllabus for an AGRICULTURE MARKETING class to be taught at Santa Rosa Junior College. The course should emphasize the framework of agribusiness marketing systems; prices and marketing costs; functional and organizational issues; food marketing; and commodity marketing. The syllabus should include as assignment schedule that contains:
- Week-by-week or day-by-day schedule including class meetings and topics covered;
- Daily or weekly reading assignments;
- Quiz and exam dates;
- Due dates of other assignments such as reports, essays, or term papers; and
- Indication where SRJC Shone Farm productions would be incorporated in the instructional framework

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Starting Salary Range: $53,938 - $76,871 per year (2013/14 Faculty Salary Schedule - the rates on this schedule include a 2.116% pay reduction and a 1.13% furlough). Teaching experience, other related professional experience, and academic degrees determine salary placement on a schedule that is competitive with other California Community Colleges.

Leave/Holiday time: Full-time faculty members earn one day of sick leave for each month worked and are entitled to holidays recognized by the District that fall within the regular academic year.

The office is located in the Button Building on the college campus and is
open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
