Reproductive health care services (birth control, STI testing and treatment) is provided on site through arrangements with community service agencies. These services are designed to address short-term acute illnesses and injuries, provide screening and prevention of communicable diseases, and to assist students in managing their health conditions. Over the counter medications and supplies, such as acetaminophen, condoms and band aids, also are available during office hours free of charge. Nurse Practitioner Clinics Eligible injured or ill students can seek care, free of charge, for evaluation and treatment of uncomplicated illness and injury, receive health counseling, and obtain referrals as needed. Some prescription medications and laboratory studies are available on site. Health screenings, including blood pressure, weight, vision, and hearing tests are provided. If additional care is needed, the student will be referred to an off campus provider. Immunizations and TB screening Vaccines provided include: Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR), Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap), Hepatitis A series, Hepatitis B series, Meningococcal vaccine and the Influenza vaccine. Tuberculosis skin tests and tuberculosis clearances are provided. Referrals for Chest X-rays and follow up evaluation and care of tuberculosis are made as needed. The above services are available Monday through Friday on the Santa Rosa Campus, and on Monday through Thursday on the Petaluma Campus. Call for an appointment. Physician Clinics Physician services are available on site, free of charge, if a student is seen by a College Nurse Practitioner first, and is then referred to the physician for further consultation and treatment. Physician services are available on the Santa Rosa Campus on Tuesdays and Fridays. How to Schedule a Clinical Appointment Calling for an appointment with a Nurse Practitioner ahead of time is always preferred, though this can be done in person by dropping by our health offices. Appointments can be made by calling Student Health Services at (707) 527-4445 for the Santa Rosa Campus or (707) 778-3919 for the Petaluma Campus. Walk-in appointments may be available for same day services, but not guaranteed. Student Psychological Services (SPS) Student Psychological Services (SPS) is a program designed to serve eligible SRJC students who are experiencing psychological difficulties or stress which affects their ability to function effectively in social, academic, or work situations, and affecting their academic performance. Individual, Couples and Family Therapy Short-term therapy is provided for eligible students. Length of therapy is mutually decided by the student(s) and the therapist. It has been shown that the quality of the relationship between client and therapist, not the length of therapy, is most important in allowing people to make desired changes in their lives. However, if you or your therapist feels that the issues you are addressing are more appropriate for longer term therapy, you will be assisted in finding a therapist in the community. If you are already seeing a therapist outside of SPS, additional individual psychotherapy will not be provided by SPS. You may however, elect to participate in group, couples or family therapy offered through SPS. Individual SPS appointments are available on the Santa Rosa Campus Monday through Friday during the Fall and Spring semesters. Call for current information on Petaluma Campus appointment availability. SPS offers group therapy on several issues each semester, such as: Relationships, Anxiety, Depression, Parenting Skills, Stress Reduction, Men's and Women's Issues, and more. These groups provide a safe, supportive environment within which members can work on difficult personal issues. Groups begin early in the semester and are closed to new members once they begin. Call SPS early in the semester if you are interested in joining a group. Current Schedule Information. Drop-In Services If you feel you need to speak with a therapist before the next available appointment can be scheduled, there is a daily "drop-in" hour in Student Health Services on the Santa Rosa Campus, where students are seen on a first-come, first-serve basis by a therapist. Please do not use drop-in services if you are receiving treatment elsewhere, and contact your own therapist if you need immediate care. Drop-in service is offered during the fall and spring semesters at the Santa Rosa Campus Monday through Friday at 2 PM (arrive at 1:30 PM), and at the Petaluma Campus at least weekly. (Call for the current drop-in schedule). Staff Student Psychological Services has three licensed consultants that provide direct supervisory oversight to therapy provided by psychology interns. SPS's interns are graduate, pre-doctoral and post-doctoral students from various Bay Area graduate schools, and already have extensive experience in providing therapy. SRJC's Student Psychological Services program is certified by the California Psychology Internship Council (CAPIC). Everything you share with an SPS therapist is kept confidential, including the fact that you received therapy. There are, however, important exceptions to therapist/client confidentiality:
Aside from these exceptions, information about you cannot be released to anyone outside of Student Health Services without a written Release of Information form signed by you. No one including family, friends, faculty, or even your community physician, can see your record or even know that you have received treatment unless you authorize your SPS therapist to release this information. How to Make an Appointment with SPS Appointments can be made in person or by calling Student Health Services at (707) 527-4445 for the Santa Rosa Campus or (707) 778-3919 for the Petaluma Campus. Making an appointment by phone is preferable. If you feel you need assistance, call early in the semester. SPS often has a waiting list for therapy appointments, especially as each semester progresses. Reproductive Healthcare Services Reproductive health services, including testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, birth control services, and mammogram referrals, are provided by Southwest Community Health Services at the Santa Rosa Campus. Fees are sliding scale, based on income, and enrollment in Medi-Cal covered services is provided as appropriate. Appointments must be made ahead of time in Student Health Services, by calling (707) 527-4445. These services are available on the Santa Rosa Campus on Tuesdays and Fridays. Health Education and Promotion The Student Health Services department integrates health counseling and education into all encounters students have with professional staff. Classroom presentations and seminars are offered regularly, on a variety of health related topics. Educational support groups are sponsored periodically on selected health issues. Student Health Services collaborates with Sonoma County's Health Services Prevention Division and other outside agencies on integrating health education programs into the college community, with topics including, but not limited to, drugs and alcohol, tobacco, and HIV prevention. Consultation with the college on health related topics are provided, including integration of health issues into curriculums, and facilitating service learning opportunities. Outreach health education activities college-wide are coordinated with various departments. A broad selection of health information pamphlets and referral information is available in both Student Health Services' offices. A larger collection of additional health-related media materials (books, videos, CD-ROMs, periodicals, etc) are maintained at the Santa Rosa Campus and made available to students.
