Third Place at Regionals

NORCAL BRONZE MEDAL WINNERS 2010

Santa Rosa Junior College Women's Water Polo finished strong in 2009 by pulling two major upsets during the final two tournaments of the season by both knocking off undefeated Modesto in the semi-final of the Big 8 Championship Tournament; and ending the higher-seeded, Merced Blue Devils season with another upset in the first round of the Northern California Championship Tournament. The young Bear Cub team finished fourth overall in NorCal in 2009 and look to take that powerful momentum into their 2010 season this year. SRJC returns seven of their strongest players from last season including All American goalie, Ariel Lockshaw, and All American center, Caitlin Risden. SRJC also looks to new leadership in the pool with a strong incoming freshmen class including Becky Bennigson (Benicia HS), Kristen Rydberg (Arroyo Grande HS), and Jessica Crawford (Heritage HS). SRJC has advanced to the NorCal Playoff Tournament eight times out of the last ten years. We have produced more than 30 all conference players, 22 All Northern California players, two conference MVP's, 17 All Americans, and over 30 All-Academic student athletes. The Cubs had back-to-back history-making seasons in 2008 and 2007 claiming the 2008 Northern California Championship Title, and had two consecutive final four appearances at the California Community College State Championship Tournament, culminating in a two year overall record of 47-15. The SRJC Women's Water Polo Team is comprised of athletes who understand the meaning of commitment and effort. Coaches McCormick and Hennan recruit athletes who not only demonstrate a high level of team work, focus, and discipline in the pool and in the classroom, but who also like to have fun with their team and enjoy competition.
