CALIFORNIA STATE CHAMPIONS

2010 5th at CCCAA STATE CHAMPS
2010 BIG 8 CONFERENCE Runner-Up
The SRJC Women's Swim and Dive Team enter the 2011 season with high expectations after winning four California Community College State Titles in the last six years. The Cubs 2011 squad is led by returning All Americans Caitlin O'Rourke, Lauren Bugglin, and Jillian Clark, all of whom were major contributors to SRJC's history making seasons in 2009 and 2010. Key
incoming freshman include Jessica Crawford from Brentwood, Breanna Weber from Napa, and local-girl, Corine Vierra. In 2010 had their seventh top five finish at the state level in as many yearsl. In the past seven seasons, the Bear Cub women
have broken 30 school records, produced 21 state champions, 13 national champions, and set four new CA Community College state records during those years. Head Coach Jill McCormick was also named California Community College Coach of the Year in 2009, 2008, 2007, 2005, and 2004. Recently, between our men’s and women’s swim teams, we have had over 35 swimmers and divers transfer on scholarship to the four-year level, 17 of which have been to Division I schools. The
SRJC Swim and Dive Team has been in existence over
30 years including numerous state champions and team titles. We compete
for the California Community Colleges Athletic Association. We belong to the Big Eight
Conference, arguably one of the strong
est conferences in the state, giving us a great slate of dual meets, rivalries,
and a
very fast Conference Championship Meet. We have a strong women's program that consistently attracts swimmers and divers
at the national level as well as athletes willing to improve to that level.
During our recent seasons we have won three conference titles, including many All American and All Academic student- athletes. Coach McCormick
recruits athletes who not only demonstrate a high level of teamwork,
focus, and discipline in the pool and in the classroom, but who also
like to have fun with their team and enjoy competition.
In Memory of Diving Coach Tim
Tim Nobriga (1951-2011)
On February 14th, 2011, beloved SRJC Diving Coach, Tim Nobriga, past away after suffering a heart attack. Tim was one month into his 37th season coaching the Bear Cub Divers at the time of his death. Tim joined the SRJC Swim & Dive coaching staff in 1974 and never left. He has been Sonoma County and California Community College diving for nearly 40 years and he will be desperately missed by the hundreds of athletes and colleagues he worked with over the seasons. The SRJC Varsity Women's Swim & Dive Team are dedicating their 2011 season to the strong yet quiet man who dedicated his life to us.
