Santa Rosa
Junior College Men's Wrestling team has enjoyed great success
in the Bay Valley Conference, winning five of the last nine BVC titles.
In addition to the numerous All Conference and All State awards, 20
SRJC wrestlers have earned All America awards and 22 have earned
Academic All America awards.
We attribute our success on the mat and in the classroom to the hard work,
dedication, and personal fortitude of the student-athlete attracted to Santa
Rosa Junior College.
I believe the purpose of sport education and athletic competition in community
colleges should be to provide learning opportunities for personal growth. Sport
should test the student-athletes’ current abilities, skills, discipline,
conditioning, and desire. It should challenge them to strive, to reach beyond
their current state and, in so doing, instill the tools necessary to be successful
in their chosen endeavors and to be a positive role models and productive members
of society.
At SRJC we strive for victory in the athletic arena, but we measure our true
successes with personal development and academic progress.
Coach Jake Fitzpatrick, was honored on March 15th, at the NCAA Wrestling Championships with the Bubb Award for excellence in coaching. Only six awards are given nationally each year between all of the Division I, II, and III schools, as well as the NAIA and junior colleges. This award is based on academic and athletic efforts of the athletes. The nominees for the Bubb Award must epitomize the qualities and characteristics of a role model and mentor for developing student-athletes. Fitzpatrick has been involved with Bear Cub wrestling since 1984, and has coached local high school wrestling at Piner and Santa Rosa as well. Congratulations Coach Fitzpatrick for your distinguished work here at SRJC.
