The SRJC Men's Swim and Dive Team enters this season with high expectations after claiming their third Big 8 Conference title since 2008 last season, as well as capturing four individual state titles (Matt Stuhr 500 Free & 200 Fly, Devon Jones 50 Free, and Trent Williams 100 Fly), and setting a new STATE RECORD in the 200 Free Relay. SRJC finished third overall at the state championships, making it the fourth year in a row the Cubs have finished in the top five in CA. The
Cubs large 2012 squad is led by returning All Americans Justin Lomas, Sean Malley, Jesse Risinger, Curis Tinloy, and Trent Williams who were all major contributors to last season's success. Key incoming freshmen are John Bing from Oregon, Alex Xu from Petaluma, and Loren Kezer from Santa Rosa. The Cubs have also brought in strong divers as well including: Robert Coxon from Santa Rosa ,Nicolas Suissa from France, and return All American Michael Kurrels, an All American on the 2008 team. Recently, between our men’s and women’s swim teams, we have had over 40 swimmers and divers transfer on scholarship to the four-year level, 21 of which have been to Division I schools. The Santa Rosa Junior College Swim and Dive Team has
been in existence for over 30 years including numerous state champions and
team titles. We compete in the California Community Colleges League. We belong
to the Big Eight Conference, arguably the strongest conference in the state, giving us a great slate of dual meets, rivalries,
and a very fast
Conference Championship Meet. We have a strong men's program that consistently attracts
swimmers and divers at the national level as well as athletes willing
to improve to that level. SRJC is committed to producing All American Student-Athletes. In fact, David Hernandez (All American SRJC Swimmer 08-09) was named the NATYCAA National Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year for two-year colleges in 2009 for his high level swimming performances and his perfect 4.0 GPA. Our team consistently breaks records and continues
to compete at a top level against other teams in the state. Coach McCormick
recruits athletes who not only demonstrate a high level of teamwork,
focus, and discipline in the pool and in the classroom, but who also
like to have fun with their team and enjoy competition.
