BACK TO BACK 2008-2009
BIG 8 CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS
2nd in STATE 2009

2nd State

The SRJC Men's Swim and Dive Team enter the 2010 season with high expectations after their back-to-back Big 8 Conference Championship titles in 2009 and 2008, and their runner-up, second place finish at the State Championship Meet last season. The Cubs large 2010 squad is led by returning All Americans David Banks (pictured below), Alex Simenstad, and David BanksDanny Gaynor, who were all major contributors last season's success.  Big 8 Male Diver of the Year, sophomore Grant Slovick is also back on the roster and looks to be a leader on the boards again this season.  Key incoming freshmen are Matt Stuhr, a very talented local swimmer, Nick Johnson a red shirt for the Cubs last season, Jackson Carter from Marin, and Devon Jones from Napa. Recently, between our men’s and women’s swim teams, we have had over 25 swimmers and divers transfer on scholarship to the four-year level, 15 of which have been to Division I schools. The Santa Rosa Junior College Swim and Dive Team has been in existence for over 30 years including numerous state champions and team titles. We compete in the California Community Colleges League. We belong to the Big Eight Conference, arguably the strongest conference in the state, giving us a great slate of dual meets, rivalries, and a very fast Conference Championship Meet. We have a strong men's program that consistently attracts swimmers and divers at the national level as well as athletes willing to improve to that level. SRJC is committed to producing All American Student-Athletes. In fact, David Hernandez (All American SRJC Swimmer 08-09) was named the NATYCAA National Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year for two-year colleges in 2009 for his high level swimming performances and his perfect 4.0 GPA. Our team consistently breaks records and continues to compete at a top level against other teams in the state. Coach McCormick recruits athletes who not only demonstrate a high level of teamwork, focus, and discipline in the pool and in the classroom, but who also like to have fun with their team and enjoy competition.
