The SRJC Varsity Men’s Swim and Dive Team finished 2nd in the Big 8 Conference this year, missing a chance at a Three-Peat as conference champions by only a 14-point margin. However, teammates sophomore Alex Simenstad and freshman Matt Stuhr led the team with 3 individual conference titles each, and were named Co-Big 8 Male Swimmers of the Year (pictured) as a result. Simenstad won the 50, 100, and 200 Free events; Stuhr won the 500 Free, the 1650 Free, and the 100 Fly (in a time that was the fastest in the nation in 2010); Danny Gaynor won the 200 Fly; and the SRJC men won 4 out of the 5 relays capturing titles in the 200 Free, 400 Free, 800 Free, and 400 Medley. At the 2010 CCCAA State Swimming and Diving Championship Meet, the team was again led by Freshman Matt Stuhr who captured state titles in both the 500 and 1650 Frees. His race in the 500 Free was so commanding that he was awarde
d the "Outstanding Male Performance of the Meet" for it. Sophomore diver Grant Slovick was the state runner-up on the 3M board and was able to break a 27 year old school diving record on the 1M board as well. The 2010 season produced 10 All Americans, 6 All Conference Athletes, 3 confrence records, and 8 new school records.
