Lenny Wagner begins his first year as Head Football Coach of the Bear Cubs. Prior to becoming the head coach at SRJC he served the college as Defensive Coordinator, where he helped lead the Bear Cubs to ten bowl games in eleven years. For eleven seasons he played an instrumental role in the success and transfer of over 100 student athletes to some of the biggest four year colleges in the country. In addition to being the Head Coach at SRJC, Lenny is currently serving the college as Interim Athletic Director, and has been the Department Chair of the Kinesiology, Athletics and Dance Departments for ten years. Prior to SRJC, Coach Wagner was the Head Football Coach and Head Track and Field Coach at Mendocino College, where he led the Eagles to the best season in school history and was voted Bay Valley Head Coach of the Year. Lenny played at Fullerton Junior College in southern California for legendary coach Hal Sherbeck, and in 1988 participated in the National Championship Potato Bowl vs. Bakersfield College. After junior college Coach Wagner transferred to Sonoma State University where he had the opportunity to play and coach with Gary Patterson, TCU Head Football Coach, Tim Walsh, Cal Poly SLO Head Football Coach and former Boise State and University of Colorado Head Football Coach Dan Hawkins. Additionally, fellow SSU teammates and coaches Myron Williams, Gerrald Demerey, Todd Little, and Jeff Tubbs have joined Wagner on the staff this year at SRJC. |

|
Coach Ako begins his third year as Defensive Coordinator for the Bear Cubs. If the name sounds familiar, its because he was a stand-out linebacker for the Bear Cubs in 1999-2000. Ako was a two-time All Conference player, and as a sophomore, was named to the Junior College All American team. After the 2000 season, he signed with Boise State, and as a senior, Ako played on the 12-1 Bronco team and finished his career in the Humanitarian Bowl vs. Iowa State. Prior to Mendocino Ako spent a year and a half as a linebacker coach at Boise State University. In 2008 Ako served as a linebacker coach at SRJC, and helped the Bear Cubs to an 8-3 record in a bowl win over Sierra College. Ako and wife Lilly are the parents of daughter Saige (6) and son Chauncey III (4). |
