Mario joined the campus community as a student employee in 1980. He received an A.S. degree in Automotive Technology from SRJC in 1980 and an A.A. in General Ed in June 1984. In the fall of that year he began working as STNC for the Plover Library and joined the staff in a permanent capacity in 1985.
"Mario was in charge of the circulation and maintenance of our book collections," explained Will Baty, Director of Library and Media Services. "He played a significant role in library affairs and was the epitome of a dedicated employee."
"He took an active interest in library automation and really believed in the importance of the library," Baty added. "He will truly be missed by everyone in the Library and Media Services."
What we remember about him and want to always remember him for:
- I remember his dedication to his responsibilities as head of the cataloging department of the library.
- He would think nothing of coming in early, staying late or coming in on weekends in order to take care of any matter that effected the smooth operation of his department.
- He became very knowledgeable about the newly installed computer system for cataloging, the details of which could be daunting.
- But I always respected the way that he mastered every aspect of the job he held. One could be confident that any matter taken to Mario would be handled properly, and thoroughly.
- He was a true prankster with a great sense of humor.
- He was also a sensitive friend who loved roses and the wilderness.
- His gorgeous rose garden. Apparently he took his rose gardening as seriously as he took his work in the library, because I've never seen such beautiful roses. If I asked him about a problem I was having with one of my own roses, he would advise me, then find an authoritative source or two in library books on roses, and show me what experts had to say on the same subject!
I really miss him.
- He was always so helpful and friendly.
- I best remember and miss his unique senses of humor. Mario's was subtle.
- He could be very charming and open to those he liked.
- He loved roses and pop music.
- Mario had a magnificent work ethic.
- He was a perfectionist, very hard working, diligent, efficient and dedicated to his job.
- Mario drew the plans for the Library Circulation Desk remodel. He had a great sense of the mechanics of design.
- I want to remember Joking and laughing with Mario. How you could really count on him to keep his word, to do his best and to follow through with what he said.
- He was intelligent and handsome, with a great smile and a wonderful sense of humor.
- He was intelligent and handsome, with a great smile and a wonderful sense of humor. He loved roses, gardening, cooking, traveling to tropical isles, the great outdoors, Harley's, and classic cars, especially Barracudas.
- Remember His generous heart and his playfulness.
- What will I miss? Absolutely everything. I adored him. I will never forget him. I look forward to seeing him in the ever-after.
- Mario Ferro was a true prankster with a great sense of humor.
- He was also a sensitive friend who loved roses and the wilderness.
- He was always so helpful and friendly.
- Remember his love of work, and of course, his roses.
May his memory, like one of his fragrant roses, linger long in our memory.
