INDICATORS/STANDARDS

FOR HIRING OF REGULAR CLASSIFIED STAFF
Santa Rosa junior College

INDICATORS [AKA Standards]

1. DISTRICT GOALS: STAFFING AND REVIEW

The addition or replacement of a classified position is consistent with furthering the District's goals as identified and communicated through the Institutional Planning Committee (IPC). Is this position in response to new institutional goals?

2. REVIEW OF TASKS NOT BEING DONE & ONES THAT CAN BE ELIMINATED

Consideration of review would be to ask what tasks need to be done that are currently being done, and what can be eliminated or 'shedded.' Department should do sell-audit to evaluate, and/or meet with Personnel representative for feedback from exit interview.

3. NEW FACILITIES/PROGRAMS & EXPANSION OF SERVICES

Analysis of current staffing and projected need for alternative schedules, staffing levels and needs should be reviewed and considered when the District is proposing building new facilities, developing new programs, hiring additional faculty, or expanding services.

4 . STAFFING HISTORY

Analysis of comparable districts. Analyze history of compensatory time/overtime use in specific department. Analyze use of STNC's and turnover rates. Look at positions that have not been funded year after year.

5. STATE MANDATES/LICENSURE

Accreditation; compliance; licensure. Analyze whether position is required by state mandate(s), accreditation; or complying with laws, regulations of state/federal
government. Consider funding source, such as categorical funding.

6. GROWTH& DECLINE

Look at decline indicators: duties not needed any longer; consider new technology; and growth indicators;  implications of technology, support staff absorbing additional workload from growth of programs, added responsibilities over time.
