"A native of Canton, Ohio, Dee graduated from Lake High School and then attended Walsh College…and Kent State University; as a pre-med major." Dee's colorful past included a stint in the Army, where she earned her Medical Specialist and Preventive Medicine Specialist certificates at the Academy of Health Sciences at Ft. Sam Houston in Texas. "During her three years of active military duty, she was stationed in Heidelberg, West Germany. She joined the Army Reserves in 1979 and was a medical instructor for the Trauma/Emergency/Field Specialty."

"After Moving to Santa Rosa, Dee worked as a Certified Nurse Assistant, Health Technician, Medical Records Clerk and Staffing Coordinator in the health professions before turning to education in 1985. She also volunteered as a junior high school religion teacher at St. Eugene's Catholic Church.
