"A native of Canton, Ohio, Dee graduated from Lake High School and then attended Walsh College…and Kent State University; as a pre-med major." Dee's colorful past included a stint in the Army, where she earned her Medical Specialist and Preventive Medicine Specialist certificates at the Academy of Health Sciences at Ft. Sam Houston in Texas. "During her three years of active military duty, she was stationed in Heidelberg, West Germany. She joined the Army Reserves in 1979 and was a medical instructor for the Trauma/Emergency/Field Specialty."

"After Moving to Santa Rosa, Dee worked as a Certified Nurse Assistant, Health Technician, Medical Records Clerk and Staffing Coordinator in the health professions before turning to education in 1985. She also volunteered as a junior high school religion teacher at St. Eugene's Catholic Church. Prior to joining SRJC's staff in 1990, she worked for four years as attendance technician II at Ridgeway High School… where she also chaired the Project Graduation committee." (Insider excerpt)

I miss Dee Lopez to this day. She was one of the most kind-hearted individuals I've every worked with.
She was a student advocate and would go out of her way to be helpful.
She also had a terrific sense of humor and a great laugh.
I remember that Dee even though she was on the quiet side, had a great underlying sense of humor.
Dee Lopez, treated everyone equally, no matter their titles.
I worked closely with Dee. She was the quiet one. ( Dee also suffered quietly. None of us knew the seriousness of her illness while she was working with us until nearly the end of her life.
We were planning on celebrating her birthday when a call came telling us that she had passed on the eve of her 40th birthday. When we arrived at work the next morning we came into a candle lit office with a memorial set up on her desk...a lingering memory for all of us.)
Dee shared a love of learning with me on a personal basis. She had a term paper she had researched and written on Dr. Albert Schwitzer for a Humanities class and asked me if I would like to read it.
A very large A was on the cover page as well as a wonderful comment from her instructor. The paper was worthy of being published. I asked Dee if I could have a copy of her paper and she reluctantly gave me a copy asking that I decide how it was to be used in the future. I told her about Dr. Schwitzer visiting the home of Karin Guzman, of the ESL department, while she was living in the Congo as a child. So we arranged lunch together with Karin to talk about that memory.
When I learned about the memorial service for Dee, I took her paper to the rectory to be given to the priest who was to give the sermon. Later, I talked to him and he told me he was so impressed by the paper Dee had written that he decided to base his sermon on her own words. It was one of those precious moments in life when one realizes that one has been chosen for a special purpose. I treasure the memory of being the care taker and messenger of this beautiful paper.
Dee was creative and gave much to the community.
She was instrumental in putting together the Grad Night at the Santa Rosa high schools.
I considered her a special friend and enjoyed the time we worked together.
Dee Lopez was my supervisor in Admissions and Records when I was a student employee. She was one of those perennially upbeat people, caring and cheerful.
Like me, she was very close to her cat and she had this mischievous sense of humor that helped the hours pass easily.
Her wit was equal to her wisdom.
She was very supportive of me, personally, and I honestly felt I could go to her with any problem or concern about work. More than that, I felt I could confide in her about anything if I needed to. I still miss her.
I miss her friendliness and warmth.
I miss just chatting with her.
