Cindy minded business, but with a flair for fun and life. I could never leave her office depressed. I did leave with a song and a prayer. Her faith in God was strong, and He influenced her life as positively as she influenced ours.
Cindy, an "
Energy Management Technician, was known for her remarkable spirit, her eternal optimism, her boundless energy and her love of life.
(She) came to SRJC in 1985 to complete her A.A. degree in Computer Science and Accounting and was a college work-study student in the Financial Aid office." Through all her jobs on campus, from student worker, typist clerk to Energy Management Technician, her sparkling personality made everyone around her happier.
In Nov., 1999, she received the Florence Howe Award for "
significant contributions to the college above and beyond the parameters of the job." "Her greatest gift to me personally and to anyone who comes in contact with her on campus and in the community is her positive, life affirming attitude. She truly lets nothing get her down." (unknow person speaking for all of us)
"Cindy began her battle with cancer in late 1990 and fought the disease with courage, determination and unrelenting hope for recover. Her faith, optimism and sense of humor inspired family, friends doctors, nurses and even strangers who crossed her path." Norene Silverek.
"Her love of life and sense of humor never left her. When emergency personnel were called to her home to take her to the hospital
Cindy told her friends that she noted how cute the firemen were. When they asked her if she could walk or needed to be carried to the vehicle, Cindy quickly announced that she needed to be carried. Later she told friends with a gleam in her eye, "My momma didn't raise any fool!"
Following are comments from her friends and colleagues, what we remember about her and want to always remember her for: (Contributors names are not listed as these sentiments were echoed by many.)
- She could break out in song at the drop of a hat.
- If she happened to hear anything that even resembled a lyric from a song in some one's comment or conversation, she'd be singing, maybe even dancing! She loved music, even could be found participating in karaoke in nearby restaurants, was in singing groups that performed locally, etc. (Thus, the affectionate "IN MEMORY OF 'SONGSTER' CINDY FRANK..." on her memorial bench outside our office! So appropriate...so "Cindy" !)

- I worked with Cindy in Facilities Operations for 7 years. Cindy was our shining light, our entertainment guide, our computer expert, she had a wonderful attitude about life. When her cancer returned, she never for a second gave up. She fought with dignity and hope until the very end. She loved to see Johnny Mathis and we had seen his shows many times together. One of our last trips together was to see Johnny Mathis. This was several weeks before she crossed over. She was such a trooper and had hope to the very end of her life. She made us laugh and cherish our lives. She taught us to cherish every birthday we had.
- While I work with a great bunch of folks, still I "miss" that special energy in my work day. I'm so glad I had the privilege of working with her.
- I believe Cindy was an inspiration to many of us. We had the pleasure of her brief time here and her friendship. When I think of her, I can't help but smile.
- She gave courage to those around her, as we witnessed her strength and courage.
- I would like people to know that Cindy was a trooper. She never gave up!
- She should be remembered for the courage she showed during her long battle with her illness.
