2013 - 2014 SRJC English Department Scholarships

Apply now for the following scholarships and awards offered through the SRJC English Department. Carefully review the eligibility requirements for each program before you submit your application.

James C. and Clara Hall Cortage Scholarship

Awards of $400.00 each to continuing SRJC students or students transferring Fall 2015 to a four-year institution, for humorous writing (including satire and parody). Students must have completed at least 6 units at SRJC and may enroll part-time (at least 6 units) or full-time for Fall 2013. Samples may include non-fiction as well as the three imaginative genres.

Don L. Emblen Literary Scholarship

One award of $400.00 goes to a student transferring full-time in Fall 2014 to a four-year institution who demonstrates achievement and promise in creative writing.

Duncan Frazier Creative Writing Award (honorary)

Goes to a student from either Fall 2013 or Spring 2014 who demonstrates achievement and promise in creative writing.

Genevieve Mott Memorial Literary Scholarship

$450.00 award will go to a student who has taken at least 9 units at SRJC in Fall 2013 or Spring 2014 and who will transfer full-time in Fall 2014 to a four-year institution. Judging is based on samples of imaginative writing (poetry, fiction or drama) provided by the applicant.

George D. Stewart Memorial Scholarship

$275.00 award goes to a continuing remedial student with a 2.5+ GPA who has completed or is enrolled in English 305 or 305X. Judging will be based on a writing sample of either non-fiction or one of the three imaginative genres.
