The 2011-12 SRJC English Department Scholarships and Awards
Apply now for the following scholarships and awards offered through the SRJC English Department. Carefully review the eligibility requirements for each program before you submit your application.
1. James C. and Clara Hall Cortage Scholarship offers 6 awards of $400.00 each to continuing SRJC students or students transferring Fall 2011 to a four-year institution, for humorous writing (including satire and parody). Students must have completed at least 6 units at SRJC and may enroll part-time (at least 6 units) or full-time for Fall 2011. Samples may include non-fiction as well as the three imaginative genres.
2. Don L. Emblen Literary Scholarship for $400.00 goes to a student transferring full-time in Fall 2011 to a four-year institution who demonstrates achievement and promise in creative writing.
3. Duncan Frazier Creative Writing Award (honorary) goes to a student from either Fall 2010 or Spring 2011 who demonstrates achievement and promise in creative writing.
4. Genevieve Mott Memorial Literary Scholarship for $450.00 will go to a student who has taken at least 9 units at SRJC in Fall 2010 or Spring 2011 and who will transfer full-time in Fall 2011 to a four-year institution. Judging is based on samples of imaginative writing (poetry, fiction or drama) provided by the applicant.
5. George D. Stewart Memorial Scholarship for $275.00 goes to a continuing remedial student with a 2.5+ GPA who has completed or is enrolled in English 305. Judging will be based on a writing sample of either non-fiction or one of the three imaginative genres.

Submissions after April 1, 2011 will not be accepted.
