Student Employees
What Safety Training Do Student Employees Need?
At SRJC, student employees are indispensable. Let's make sure that each one
is fully trained to work in a manner that protects not only themselves, but
everyone they interact with. Simple safety practices such as wiping up spills
immediately and using equipment properly can prevent injury. Even a program
as simple as mentoring or assigning someone older and more experienced to train
the young worker can make a difference. Safety awareness should be a key part
of the work experience our student employees gain from SRJC.
Injury & Illness Prevention Program (IIPP)
The state of California requires every SRJC employee to attend Injury and Illness
Prevention Program training (included in the New Employee Safety Orientation)
once during their career at SRJC. Does that include student employees? Yes,
if the student is receiving compensation from SRJC.
Job-specific Safety Information
All employees must receive training on how to protect themselves from the hazards
specific to their individual job duties. Each supervisor must identify the job-specific
hazards their employees may be subjected to in the course of their duties and
provide appropriate safety training. All training must be received prior to
the job assignment, and whenever new hazards are identified or introduced. EH&S
offers free safety training consultation and a variety of programs to assist
supervisors fulfill their training responsibilities. Consult the Student
page of the Safety Training Directory.

what to do during and after an earthquake.
Health and Safety Responsibilities
SRJC faculty, staff, students, and visitors have a right to a safe, healthful
work environment. Campus procedures must be done safely, as described in the
college Injury & Illness Prevention Program. This applies to all SRJC faculty,
staff, students, guests and volunteers. In order to work, all SRJC personnel
must also understand their responsibilities under this plan.
An extraordinary variety of occupational pursuits are being carried out
each day and night at SRJC. What do you need to know to work safely?
