1.
Role of
ETC this year Committee members discussed the mission and
function of the Committee. New members
were informed about the existing master plan available online. It was mentioned that one of our functions,
which we have been fulfilling, is to keep abreast of, and inform faculty and
staff about the newest technological developments for education. The current forum for educating faculty and
staff is through the Brown Bag series.
We discussed ways we might expand this “teaching” role to include
extended workshops on teaching with technology (pedagogical issues in
particular) on PDA days. We also discussed at length the benefits of
inviting outsiders experienced in conducting workshops on pedagogy with
educational technology. The Committee
decided to pursue developing PDA workshops for Spring, if possible, and if not,
for Fall.
2.
Student
Access and the ETC Committee members briefly discussed its function as regards student
access to technology, and the fact that the ability of instructors to use
technology effectively is currently hindered by lack of network access in all
of the classrooms. The Master Plan, according to Richard Sapanaro, would be
taking such concerns into account.
The
Committee decided to explore ways to augment our work to educate faculty and
staff about ways to effectively use educational technology, and about new
educational technologies, generally.
The option that seemed best to the committee was to offer longer (full
day or 2 day) workshops to train faculty in ways that would be meaningful and
practical. The Committee plans to
pursue offering such workshops at PDA events.
At the next meeting,
the Committee decided to discuss the District Resource Project in detail.
