Discussion

Committee No Shows

The problem of Committee members who have not attended any meetings this year or last was again discussed. Two such members promised that they would be at this meeting, but still did not attend. It was agreed that ETC committee chairs would contact the Academic Senate and ask that these members be replaced with members who are able to attend ETC meetings and participate in Committee work. Robert Ethington will follow up.

Technology/Pedagogy Workshops/Seminars

Will Baty reported that he has contacted the workshop group recommended by Jennifer Royal in order to see if we can arrange for them to do a workshop pedagogical issues connected with using technology in instruction at our Fall PDA Day.

Brown Bag Update

Jennifer Royal has been working on scheduling the ETC Brown Bag Lunches for Spring. At present they include:

  1. Using a Digital Camera - Russ Bowden - Week of March 12
  2. Using Images in Web Pages - Linda Hemenway
  3. Broadband Connections - Rich Abrahams - April 11
  4. New CATE tools and features - Bill Stone - will be rescheduled for late April or March since he just did a PDA Day CATE presentation

Printing Guidelines Article

Article regarding student printing options on both campuses was drafted by Rich Abrahams, Robert Ethington, Shirley Davis and Maryann Laughlin. It appeared as the Technology News column in the February 15 issue of the Insider.

Next insider Article

Will be on the Brown Bag Lunch Series, as soon as dates are solid.

Status of District Resource Project

The project is currently in limbo. Gary Brown had begun work on a database structure for the project about a year and a half ago, but he is no longer a committee member and nothing further has been done with his drafts. Various issues and problems associated with the project were discussed.

It was decided last Fall that the project is too big to be dealt with via this committee and that additional resources would be needed in order to carry out the project. One possibility suggested was that ETC draft a staff development grant proposal which would describe the project, outline its goals, state its benefits and identify types of staffing and material resources needed to carry out the project before doing any further work on it. A new District Resource Project subcommittee, consisting of Russ Bowden, Linda Hemenway, John Hemenway and Rich Abrahams (if he agrees) will meet to review the development of the project to date and to discuss options for going further. Linda Hemenway will schedule the first meeting of the subcommittee.

Instructional Computing Issues Update

Russ reported that his meeting with Baba Adams concerning the survey instrument will need to be rescheduled since Baba was out of town for the previous one. He hopes to meet with him around March 14 and will report back to the Committee after the meeting.
