EDUCATIONAL PLANNING & COORDINATING COUNCIL

Minutes of October 10, 2002

3:15 PM

Senate Chambers

ATTENDING: Ed Buckley, Kris Abrahamson, Victor Cummings, Terri Frongia, Greg Granderson, Renee LoPilato, Anne O'Donnell, Joan Scarborough, and Guests: Barbara Croteau and Ken Lofgren

1. Approval of Minutes

Minutes of Sept 26 were approved.

2. Follow up on Resident Units for Certificates

Greg Granderson and Barbara Croteau presented the "Policy Draft for Certificate Residency" passed by the Academic Senate. There was extensive discussion, largely focused on the degree to which residency should be either uniform or otherwise reflective of a college wide philosophy vs. a matter for each department to decide. Conclusion: Members of EPCC (Granderson, Buckley, LoPilato) will meet with Barbara Croteau with a proposal aimed at career certificates.

3. Technical Issues Associated with Limiting Cr/NCr Limitation

The upshot of this discussion was that there appear to be few or no technical obstacles to changing our practices and developing a policy allowing students with designated educational goals to take more than 12 units on a Cr/NCr basis. Conclusion: EPCC will develop a policy with the aim of implementing it beginning Fall 2003. Renee LoPilato bring back proposed language to the next EPCC meeting.

4. Report on Assessment/Learning Outcomes Conference

Greg Granderson, Victor Cummings, and Terri Frongia reported on the assessment conference they attended recently in Palm Springs. Assessment and learning outcomes will be topics of considerable discussion at the college over the next several months and years.
