1. Minutes


Approved minutes of February 22, 2001.


2. Discussion of "Duplicate Degrees"


Board policy allows a student to receive an AA degree and also an AS degree—but not two of either. The issue has arose as the majors policy has been discussed. Also, there may be students who return after many years, having received an AS degree, and wish to go into a degree-only occupational program (e.g. ADN or Dental Hygiene). EPCC discussed these options: 



    

  • Eliminate the limitation




    

  • Allow multiple AS degrees but not multiple AA degrees 




    

  • Consider degree-only occupational program degrees as a third category 




    

  • Leave the language the same, and handle the matter by petition



Conclusion: Ed Buckley will ask the Majors Task Force to discuss and bring back a recommendation to EPCC for consideration.


3. Certificate Residency Requirement


Responses to Buckley’s unscientific email poll suggested that at least some programs want to allow the programs themselves to decide the residency requirement for certificate programs. On the other hand, there is a need for some district guidance and consistency. 


Conclusion: Ed Buckley will ask the Curriculum Committee to review this matter and bring back a recommendation to EPCC for consideration.


4. Updates


There were brief updates re accreditation (Buckley) and developmental education. No action or recommendations.
