GRADUATES > JOB PLACEMENT

Since the Web development field is a relatively new industry you may be wondering what types of employment opportunities are available to students after they complete the program. Our students find many avenues of employment including:

Full/Part time employment with a Web Development firm
Full/Part time employment as a Webmaster for a non-web industry
Starting up their own Web development firm
Freelance employment for Web or non-web firms
Webmaster for a income generating Web site

For a more detailed description of how these employment options work and a list of students who have completed the program and are working in the field read the information listed below.

FULL/PART TIME EMPLOYMENT WITH A WEB DEVELOPMENT FIRM
We have students working for PBHS.com, NuDesign, Bright Productions, and Planeteria. I invite you to review student's contact information, visit their portfolios and read their comments on the Web training program.

Heidi Jorgensen: hjorgensen@hjorgensen.com, 707-823-6338
Electronic Portfolio: www.hjorgensen.com
Certificated in: Java; Javascript; Perl; ASP;
Employment Status: I am currently working part time for a web development company doing ASP & JavaScript programming & PDF forms.

FULL/PART TIME WEB EMPLOYMENT FOR NON-WEB INDUSTRY
Students are also able to find jobs performing Web related work for local companies such as wineries, the County of Sonoma, SRJC and the Press Democrat to name a few. Many companies are finding that their Web needs require a full time in-house employee or an employee who can create web and print based materials.

Katrina Small: katrina@katgrafix.com

Employment Status: I work for Barefoot Cellars as a Marketing Design Manager preparing sales support and point of sale materials, wine labels, magazine ads, HTML Emailers and Web site support, using Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Macromedia Dreamweaver.
Web Training Evaluation: The training I received through the SRJC CIS department was well-rounded and extremely informative. I feel that emphasis was placed on making sure the student understood and imbibed the concepts of the software they were learning while being prepared for real-life situations within the graphic and web-based fields.

Terry Hammon: thammon@pacbell.net
Electronic Portfolio: http://home.pacbell.net/thammon/
Certificated in: Web Site Development: Web Graphic Design (Dec. 2001) Employment Status: I work full time as webmaster for Solutions for Humans Assistive Technology, http://sforh.com . I also produce the images for the website. Manufacturers of computer equipment along with publications about various computer peripherals have made use of my photography. I am updating & will soon rebuild the website for Third Street Aleworks, http://www.thirdstreetaleworks.com .
Web Training Evaluation: Previous training in photography gave me good grasp of photo compostiton, lighting, editing & printing. That, & what I learned about Adobe Photoshop at SRJC, are of tremendous value. I learned a lot of the basics about webdesign at SRJC, but with on-the-job experience you pick-up knowledge that school can never provide.

OWNERS OF WEB DEVELOPMENT FIRMS
This is one of the most popular employment options, with the flat economy many students prefer to work for themselves rather than face corporate layoffs. The advantages of self-employment are freedom to work where, when and how you choose. The disadvantage is that as your own employer you may need to work harder, longer hours and have no guarantee of the income you will earn each year.

Andrea Walters: AHW@Kestrel-Designs.com, 541-554-0277
Electronic Portfolio: http://www.kestrel-designs.com/portfolio/
I would also like to invite students past and present to contribute to http://www.webgeekstuff.com/

Web Skills Training: I found the training at SRJC to be extremely valuable. The curriculum taught, laid a good foundation for me to be successful with my new career as a web designer / programmer. The instructors were well versed in course subject matter, not to mention great in presentation. I also was very pleased with the technology internship program.

Daria Goetsch: info@searchinnovation.com,
Electronic Portfolio: http://www.searchinnovation.com
Search Innovation Marketing
Certificated in: no Web certificates were available at the time I took classes.
Employment Status: Running my own Search Engine Marketing company. Web Skills Training: Good overall. The HTML classes and graphics courses I took were great. The DOS class I took had inadequate information in order to complete the class. The UNIX class was aimed at programmers instead of beginners as it was supposed to be, which was a problem for me.

Suzanne Wright: suz@thewrightdesign.com,

I am looking for contract work to fill in the gaps $$$, and believe my career is just beginning. I would like to find a job that allows me flexible working hours so when photo shoots come up, I am free to accept them.
Web Skills Training: I think this program is excellent, working on a web team wearing multiple hats is a great way to prepare for working with clients.

FREELANCE FOR WEB DESIGN FIRMS
In this situation students will work as independent contractors for Web Development firms. This allows them to do Web work without having to go out and being in the clients. They often work from home and have the freedom to set their own schedule. However as a freelance employee they never know how much work they will have each month.
