Student Information >> Overview >> Web Design Building an Idea CIS web design curriculum ranges from classes in web authoring programs like GoLive and Dreamweaver to a complete certificate program for students wishing to enter the field of web site design, graphics production and development. The beginning web user desiring to create a simple home page may want to explore Adobe GoLive, Microsoft FrontPage and Macromedia Dreamweaver. Serious web design students will start with the popular classes of CIS 58.51A/B to design web pages with HTML and then choose to explore curriculum such as web graphics, developing an electronic portfolio, and the business of website production. Advanced web coursework includes Flash, using JavaScript, and Active Server Pages. Many of these courses lead to CIS web design certificates in the areas of web content developer, web graphics designer, and Perl, Java, and JavaScript programmer.
CIS is proud of its popular series of Adobe Photoshop, ImageReady and Illustrator classes. Desktop publishing classes include Adobe PageMaker for the general user, InDesign for the serious desktop publishing user, and FrameMaker for technical writing. Many of these courses lead to several CIS Adobe certificates and map to ACE industry exams. Multimedia can be explored in coursework in Macromedia Director. CIS provides programming classes for the transfer student as well as the working professional seeking to upgrade programming skills. Computer science majors interested in a 4-year degree should take CIS 10A and CIS 10B (Computer Sciences Fundamentals I and II), which introduce computer science and programming theory using C++.
