What's Available: CIS EnrollmentCourse OutlinesDetailed outlines for each course can be located in the Schedule of Classes section at http://www.santarosa.edu. Keeping CurrentCIS is constantly upgrading its existing curriculum and adding new classes to keep up with the ever-changing field of Information Technology. Check our What's New! page for new courses and for newly-added sections that didn't make it into the printed schedule of classes!
Course PrerequisitesMany courses have prerequisites. If the course you want to take has a prerequisite course and you feel you have the skills and knowledge to challenge this requirement, you can do the following: Check the detailed course outline of the prerequisite course in the Schedule of Classes at http://www.santarosa.edu and determine whether you should request a waiver of prerequisites. Fill out and submit a challenge form to the Admissions and Records department. Be careful to fill in complete information on the form so that the department chair can determine that you do have the required skills. Challenge forms can be found in the printed schedule of classes or can be downloaded in PDF format at http://www.santarosa.edu/admissions/forms.html .
Class FormatsCIS classes are offered in different formats. For example, applications and graphics classes are typically offered in a formal classroom lecture room which allows students to focus on the concepts and information demonstrated by the instructor. For this type of class, the student can complete assigned work at home or choose to use the CIS lab when the instructor is present as indicated in the section comment in the Schedule of Classes. Other CIS classes, such as networking and computer basics, incorporate lecture, scheduled lab time where the class uses computers with the instructor present, or hands-on lecture.
Online CoursesStudents taking online courses should be aware of the special environment in which they will receive instruction. For example, online courses require students to be independent learners and self-motivated. Students interested in online classes should visit SRJC's CATE, the Center for Advanced Technology in Education, at http://online.santarosa.edu/ and visit the Student area to understand online classes environments. There is a self-assessment quiz to help you determine if you are ready to take an online class.
Double-Time ClassesStudents in networking classes will find many classes offered in an intensive double-time format. This is a great environment for busy lifestyles, but students will find that these classes require an intensive amount of time to master the curriculum, do class reading assignments, and perform lab work. Taking a class in double-time format requires double-time effort! If you need individual assistance on which class is best for you, contact CIS counselor Julie Hahn at 527-4792 or jhahn@santarosa.edu.
