Networking intro class changes
Beginning Spring 2003, changes have been made to the networking
core courses required for CIS networking certificates. This allows
CIS to eliminate courses with duplicate curriculum and create the
best environment for beginning networking students.
In the past, students have taken
- CIS 51.13 Windows Command Line Basics
- CIS 51.14 Networking Essentials-Practicum
- CIS 51.15 Networking Essentials-Theory
as recommended preparation for the Windows, UNIX/Linux and Cisco
networking certificate programs.
Changes have been submitted to change the certificates as follows:
- The Cisco certificate includes Cisco 1, 2, 3 and 4 (CIS 58.81A/B/C/D)
only.
- The new Windows 2000 networking certificate and the UNIX certificate
have the prerequisite course of CIS 58.81A Cisco Networking 1 and
students are then encouraged to take CIS 51.18 Introduction to Networking
Services before entering a study of Windows 2000 or UNIX.
- CIS 51.13 Windows Command Line Basics is a recommended course
for Cisco 1.
Students may challenge this course by submitted a prerequisite challenge
form to Admissions & Records.
