What's New

Adobe Honors SRJC program

Each quarter the Adobe industry partnership program, honors top-ranked training centers and individual instructors. Our program in the Computer Studies departments competes with private training institutions throughout the world.

At the end of each class, students are required to submit a thorough online evaluation through Metrics That Matter. It gives us detailed feedback and information on how the training enhances student graphic skills in the workplace.

For the 3rd quarter of 2008, Cyndi Reese was the #2 instructor and our SRJC
program was recognized for having the most evaluations at a high rating of performance. Let's give a round of applause to the Acrobat, Dreamweaver, Flash, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop instructors for their quality instruction.

Course names and numbers have changed

Effective Fall 2009, all CIS courses and many BOT courses will have new numbers that start with “CS” (for computer studies) instead of “CIS” or “BOT”!  Please check out the following information:

New department name

Beginning Fall 2008, the Computer & Information Sciences department will begin to use its new department name, Computer Studies. The name better reflects the different disciplines taught in the department, including computer basics, graphics and multimedia, networking, IT, programming, web, and office applications.

We've grown!

CIS is merging with the Business Office Technologies department and Graphics Design so that students will be able to find the computer course they need in one location. Look to Computer Studies for your one-stop-computer-shop.

New programs and degrees

CIS has recently added the Computer Help Desk certificate to its impressive list of career-oriented programs. This is a 1 year course of study to prepare the student to enter the workforce as an entry level help desk technician.

The new Interactive Media Design program at Santa Rosa Junior College provides students with the education needed to create exciting interactive media designs and experiences. This is both a certificate program and a major for the Associates Degree.

New Technology allows "live" online office hours and class participation

Jeff Diamond, Cyndi Reese and Michael McKeever, instructors in the CIS department, are using the Voice Over IP (VOIP)technology being rolled out by CCCConfer to offer their students the ability to participate in live online classes and office hours. With access to merely a microphone and a computer, these students can virtually be there with the instructor. In addition, students can access the archives of these classes on the cccconfer Website and not miss any work due to absence. Check out Jeff's tutorials on how to access the CCCConfer system at the link provided here. http://www.santarosa.edu/~jdiamond/cccconfer.htm

Adobe Users Group

Jeff Diamond and Cyndi Reese are co-founders of the North Bay Adobe Users Group. The Northbay Adobe User Group was founded in May 2007 to provide a forum of support and technology to students, professionals, and enthusiasts. With 8 meetings each year, Jeff and Cyndi bring in exciting guest speakers to keep up with the advancement of Adobe graphics. For more information, visit www.nbaug.com.
