Adobe Days

| Instructor, Cyndi reese introducing our keynote speaker |
Each Spring, the CIS department hosts an annual event known as Adobe Day. Open
to students, SRJC faculty and staff, this event features professional presenters
from the Adobe corporation on graphics, desktop publishing, web-authoring and
PDF software. This last Spring 2005, Adobe staff was on hand to introduce the
new Adobe Creative Suites 2 software of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat,
and Bridge one month after the software update was released. Geared towards both
the experienced user and the novice, the audience got to see features of the
new software release from the same presenters that tour the United States at
computer trade shows. Adobe literature and promotional CDs were available and
the highlight of the afternoon was when Adobe t-shirts were thrown into the crowd
by CIS graphics instructors.
Adobe Day is always a popular event. In addition, the CIS department holds
a raffle that day to raise money for the CIS graphics scholarship fund. This
year, over $700 was raised with great prizes that included a copy of Adobe
Photoshop CS2, Adobe InDesign CS2, a Total Training DVD in Photoshop, and numerous
graphics books from Peachpit Press.

The CIS department has a tremendous industry partnership with Adobe. All Photoshop,
InDesign and Illustrator instructors must pass a rigorous industry exam in
order to teach Adobe graphics in the CIS department. The Santa Rosa Junior
College is listed on the Adobe website as a certified training provider. Instructors
receive special educational benefits, and thanks to Karen Pearson Daily, our
educational representative, presenters come to SRJC each year for Adobe Day.
Information about the Spring 2006 Adobe Day will be forthcoming.
