Web Development Courses
The Web is clearly one of the most significant technological advances of the 20th century and we invite you to learn more about it. Students who enroll in Web Development courses may be training for a full or part time career, updating skills for their current job, hoping to start their own Web-based business, or using their skills for personal enrichment. Whatever your educational goals we have courses which will meet your needs.

The courses have been grouped into 3 broad categories: Production, Design, and Programming.

Email the course coordinator for further information.

Web Production Courses
Most students begin with the production area where they learn HTML - the "lingua franca" of the Web and then move on to a WYSIWYG Editor such as Dreamweaver, or GoLive. Students can also expand on their HTML skills by delving into XML and CSS.

As a capstone to the production courses we offer the "Web Content Practicum " course which allows students to work on a team as a Content Developer or Project Manager to develop a Web site for a local non-profit organization.

Web Programming Courses
Programming is deeply imbedded into the Web. Programming applications include; online banking, tracking a UPS order, shopping for Christmas, or using a search engine.

We recommend you begin with one of our core programming courses CIS 10 Introduction to Computer Programming or CIS 16A Introduction to Programming with Visual BASIC. Next you can enroll in one of the Web Programming languages such as Javascript, Java, Perl, PHP, or ASP.net.

Web programs reside on UNIX or Windows servers and we offer courses in both these operating systems. Finally a Web programmer needs a thorough understanding of database so we encourage you to learn SQL, and one of our database programs: Access, Filemaker or Oracle.

As a capstone to the design courses we offer CIS 58.55 "Business of web Design " which allows students to work on a team as a Programmer to develop a Web site for a local non-profit organization.
