Student Psychological Services (SPS)

If a student is distressed or disruptive but not dangerous, he or she may be referred to SPS (ext. 4445). SPS frequently has a waiting list, but the student will be seen within 48 hours if accompanied by a yellow referral card or a phone call from faculty or staff. SPS also provides a drop-in hour daily (call for current semester schedule).

Students who are extremely distressed or who appear out of touch with reality may need the additional support of being escorted to Student Health Services. You may walk the person to the SPS office on the Santa Rosa Campus at 4017 Race Building. A phone call to the department (ext. 4445) ahead of time is helpful, to ensure the office is open, so the SPS staff can anticipate your arrival. They may also be able to advise you on whether emergency services in the community are needed instead. If you feel the student is dangerous to self or others or no escort is available for a disoriented student, contact District Police at ext. 1000.

Psychologist consultation at (707) 521-6911 is available within 24 hours to discuss faculty and staff concerns regarding a student. After dealing with a disruptive or dangerous situation or any other critical incident that has a psychological impact, the consultant also is available for critical incident debriefing and aftercare.

Disability Resources

The Disability Resources Department (DRD) serves over 3000 students with disabilities of all types, including both physical and psychological disabilities. The Department Coordinator is available for consultation and can provide referrals to one of the specialists familiar with the type of disability in question. Referrals to the DRD are made by calling the department administrative assistant 527-4278.

CIRT

Referrals
You may call any of the CIRT members listed at any time for consultation, no matter how insignificant your situation may seem. We encourage you to assist us in preventing crises before they occur.

Trainings
The Crisis Intervention Resource Team provides customized trainings to college departments and/or groups on request on handling distressed, disruptive and/or dangerous situations. You may contact any CIRT team member to request a training, preferably at the beginning of the academic year to schedule a training during the year.

Employee Crisis Assistance Team

In the event that you encounter a difficult situation with another employee, you need to call the Human Resources Director at ext. 4688 and the Employee Crisis Assessment Team will assist you.

District Police

The District Police Department is the designated first responder in all emergencies. Always remember to dial 1000.

Student Health Services

Student Health Services receives initial inquiries regarding students needing assistance with medical and/or mental health problems which are not an emergency situation. A student who can come to the department during established hours of operation will receive a brief assessment and triage of the situation accomplished through close work with Student Psychological Services, Nurse Practitioners, and the District Police Department. Appropriate referrals are made to both on- and off-campus resources as needed. Dial ext. 4445.
