The Child Development Department at Santa Rosa
Junior College is ready to give you the assistance you need
to make sure that your home is a great place for children
and parents. We offer a variety of classes that help you offer
a rewarding, exciting and nurturing environment for the children
you serve.
WE NOW OFFER LAB AND ON-LINE
CLASSES
JUST FOR FAMILY DAY CARE PROVIDERS
We know that the family child care provider
works long hours and has trouble attending classes during
the day or in the evenings, so we'll bring the classes to
you. With our on-line classes you can attend during the hours
that are convenient for you without leaving your home. Presently
we offer 4 different courses specifically for the family child
care provider. They are:
- CHLD 213 Business Aspects of Operating a Family Child
Care Home
- CHLD 212 Creating Partnerships with Parents in Family
Child Care Homes
- CHLD 211 Creating Learning Environments in the Family
Child Care Home
- CHLD 210 Curriculum and Guidance for Children in Mixed
Aged Settings

Classes are offered in the day and the evening and on weekends
and are an economical way to get top quality instruction.
You will take home information you can use every day.

CHILD 60, 60.1 and 60.2 EARLY
CHILDHOOD EDUCATION METHODS AND LAB/PRACTICUM
This course provides an opportunity:
- To learn techniques and curriculum appropriate for young
children
- To learn how to apply this information with children (9
hours per week for 60.2 lab, 3 hrs. per week for 60.1)
Experience can be gained at our on-campus Children's Centers
between the hours of 8.30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. daily.
Infant/Toddler/Two's Program and Preschool Program.
You are required to work a minimum of 9 hours (for 60.2) in
either program of your choice unless you are currently teaching
in a children's program. If so, you may work 6 hours on campus
& do 3 hours in your own program (must be licensed).
Things to Remember
- Child 60.1 has no pre-requisites.
- Prerequisites with a "C" or better for Child 60/60.2 are:
- Child 10 or 3 units of Child 110 series
- Child 51
- Child 90.4
- You must take Child 60 (lecture) concurrently with Child
60.2 (lab/practicum)
- You need to sign up for lab hours/days as soon as you
register. This must happen before the semester begins. Sign
up is done in the Child Development Office, in person or
by phone (707) 527-4315.
- Lab hours begin the first week of classes.
- It is highly recommended that you have observed in the
lab before you take Child 60/60.2. This can be done by calling
the department office beforehand to make arrangements.

taken in an approved Mentor Site, under certain conditions.
