SRJC CHILD DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT CERTIFICATES

These new Child Development certificates meet the child development requirement for the Teacher and Associate Teacher levels of the Child Development Permit issued by the State of California, Commission on Teacher Credentialing that went into effect January 1, 1997. Refer to the CD Permit Matrix.

Associate Teacher Certificate

12 units total required

A grade of C or better is required in all certificate courses.

Recommended: in addition to the above in accordance with Title 22 - Dept. of Social Services, 15 hours of training in pediatric first aid, CPR and children's health issues.

Teacher Certificate

24 units total required Plus a minimum of 3 units of Child Development elective courses A grade of C or better is required in all classes .

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

  • CH 60.2 may count towards the experience requirement on the Child Development Permit Matrix or as units towards a permit, but not both. If counted as experience, then six units of elective courses must be taken.
  • While Administration classes will meet the department's requirements for the Teacher Certificate on the Child Development Permit Matrix, they cannot count for both the required 24 Child Development units and the six units of administration for Site Supervisor or Program Director.
  • Specializations on the Child Development Permit Matrix require an additional six units in a focused area. Please see your advisor.

    Early Intervention Assistant

    24 units total required
    This certificate is for people interested in careers working with children with special needs and their families.
