Office of the Vice President Student Services

Date: 06 October 1998

To: PfE Ad hoc Advisory Group for Student Services

From: Ricardo Navarrette

Subject: PfE Background and Guidelines for Priorities

Background

Attached with this cover memo are copies of each of the new PfE proposals that have been submitted to Student Services. In preparation for our meeting on Wednesday, 10-7-98, I am asking that you carefully read each proposal. In this manner we will be ready to discuss and evaluate the material together.

At this time the Institutional Planning Council has not set specific criteria for their final determination of PfE priorities, nor has the Chancellor’s Office resolved anything concrete in this respect. However, we do know that the State will eventually expect a credible commitment from each college toward improved student and performance outcomes. Based on prior consultation the state goals will probably be drawn from these focal points: transfers, degrees/certificates, course completions, workforce training, and basic skills improvement.

Guidelines

The PfE Ad hoc Advisory Group will evaluate and classify each proposal into these groupings:

The criteria we will use to prioritize our proposals will be based on these principles:

    1. Does it directly respond to student access, success or college accountability?
    2. Does it assure a measurable outcome?
    3. How does it directly benefit students and/or the college?
    4. Does it support institutional priorities and goals?
    5. Is it a one time or ongoing initiative?

Please bring the attached materials with you to the meeting on Wednesday. (9:00 a.m. in the Maggini Conference Room.)
