SRJC's Progress Report on the Partnership for Excellence Goals

Progress toward the 2005-06 Partnership for Excellence goals was achieved by SRJC in almost all the areas except in one goal and one sub-goal area for 1998-99. SRJC did not meet the projected goals in the areas of work force development -- successful completion of vocational education courses, goal 4 and the area of transfer prepared - sub-goal 1b.

In comparing the 1997-98 to 1998-99 periods, increase occurred - in goal 1, transfer to 4-year institutions. The number of SRJC students who transferred to the University of California increased from 186 to 197, while the number of students that transferred to the California State University increased from 775 to 817. However, the number students in the sub-goal, transfer prepared, slightly decreased from 1,693 to 1,590.

In terms of the second goal, degrees and certificates awarded, SRJC experienced a big increase in the number of associate degrees awarded, an increase from 1,720 in 1997-98 to 1,979 in 1998-99. Also, the number of certificates awarded increased from 567 in 1997-98 to 623 in 1998-99.

For goal 3, the overall successful course completion rate increased from 70 percent to 71 percent. For the basic skills successful course completion rate, a sub-goal of goal 3, there was a decrease from 65.1 percent to 62.3 percent. Also, there was a decrease from 78.4 to 77.7 percent for the vocational education course completion rate.

For goal 4, successful completion of vocational courses - overall, the number of vocational courses that were successfully completed, decreased from 38,410 in 1997-98 to 36,557 in 1998-99. Decrease occurred in the following sub-categories: student accountability model (S.A.M.) Code "A" - apprenticeship courses, where the successful vocational course completion decreased from 837 in 1997-98 to 787 in 1998-99. For the S.A.M. Code "B" - advanced-level vocational courses, successful vocational course completion decreased from 1,581 in 1997-98 to 1,492 in 1998-99 and for the S.A.M. Code "C" - introductory vocational courses, successful vocational course completion decreased from 35,992 in 1997-98 to 34,278 in 1998-99.

For goal 5, Basic skills improvement, in comparing the SRJC's progress for the time periods, 1995-98 and 1996-99, there was a slight decrease for the basic skills improvement overall goal -- from 31% to 30%. However, for the time periods 1995-98 and 1996-99 there was slight percentage increase in Math basic skills improvement sub-goal -- from 29% to 32% and slight decrease in the English basic skills improvement, sub-goal, from 32% to 29%.

Statewide --Progress Report on the Partnership for Excellence Goals

From 1997-98 to 1998-99, systemwide progress toward the 2005-06 Partnership goals was achieved in all but one goal area and one sub-goal area. During that period, decreases occurred in goal 1, the number of community college students who transferred to the University of California (from 10,210 to 10,161) and to the California State University (from 45,546 to 44,989). The number of students prepared for transfer, however, rose slightly. In that same period, the basic skills successful course completion rate, as a sub-goal of goal 3, decreased from 59.0 percent to 58.7 percent, while the overall successful course completion rate increased from 68.1 percent to 68.4 percent.
