Proposal to Restructure "Student Financial Services"
In June 2001, the Vice President, Student Services initiated an evaluation of the Financial Aid Office and its organizational relationship with the Scholarship Programs Office. The impetus for this review was prompted by a concern that the standards of service and coordination of staff responsibilities in Financial Aid needed to be strengthened. Ongoing consultation with the classified staff and managers in these departments resulted in the recommendation that the Financial Aid Office and Scholarship Programs Office be restructured into a unified department titled, "Student Financial Services". This proposal responds to several key programmatic imperatives:
Stabilize effective administrative leadership.
Improve accountability in federal and state financial aid processing.
Strengthen classified staff morale in Financial Aid.
Recognize the critical working relationship of each department.
Enhance services for students through coordinated efforts.
The following report details the effects of the restructuring proposal which will be presented to the Board of Trustees in December.
