Objective 1.1

(revision of "KnowledgeWorks))

Critical Educational Initiatives

Academic Affairs will continue to develop and assess progress on critical educational initiatives: the linkage of workforce preparation and economic development; the development of additional programs leading to formal certification or recognition to complement the degree and certificate programs; the assessment and improvement of developmental education programs and services across the disciplines; the development of an institutional plan for off campus and weekend programs

A new task force produced a second iteration of "KnowledgeWorks," which was reviewed by IPC in the Fall 2000 semester. Organizational changes are being discussed in Academic Affairs leading to the development of an "Economic Institute" and a customer-focused approach to economic development and workforce training.

In addition to the original objectives listed for this goal, we have also strengthened the major requirement for the Associate Degree by implementing the "Transfer Major" in F'00,

developing 15 new majors, and providing training abut revised majors procedures.

Objective 1.2

(non-traditional instructional delivery of workforce training)

Non-traditional instructional delivery continues to expand, as evidenced by the Technology Academy opening in the Spring 2001 semester. Plans are being developed for a "Weekend College" and on-line courses generated 100 FTES.

Objective 1.3

(developmental education)

$46,000 of innovation funds have been earmarked to this objective. The new General Education Dean has mobilized the Developmental Education Task Force to develop ways to improve coordination and effective measurement of outcomes.

Objective 1.4

(off-campus and weekend)

The new Assistant Dean, Business, CIS, Off-campus and Weekend Programs, took office in November of 2000 and is developing a plan for the expansion of offerings.
