RE: TLC Registration in Spanish

Overview:

In mid January , Spring semester 2000, the VPSS requested the Dean of A&R to pursue the development and implementation of a TLC option in Spanish as a high priority .An Admissions and Computing Services team was assembled and was joined by the Matriculation Coordinator. Karin Guzman from the ESL Department agreed to work with the task force as the project progressed.

1. On February 7th the TLC Spanish Development team met with Jerry Fisher, Dean of A&R , from Solano Community College. Since Solano successfully developed and implemented its TLC English and Spanish options several years ago, his technical and historical overview proved useful. Solano CC ended up hiring a Spanish faculty and paying hourly for the translating and recording duties. They used their Media Center to do the actual recording and to take advantage of their professional conditions.

2. Computing Services has provided the TLC scripts and supplemental phases in English that will need to be translated, recorded and digitized.

3. We will need to audition and hire a suitable faculty or staff member to act as "the voice" for the Spanish TLC version. Karin Guzman has provided names of four possibilities. We want to select someone who plans on remaining connected to the college and will also be available for updates that may be necessary during the semesters.

4. Whoever is selected will be responsible for the translating and recording the English scripts in the exact order as they appear on the TLC English version.

5. Once the recording is finished, the next phase will include having "the voice" work directly with Ken Lofgren/ Computing Services to test a page. If suitable, then the rest of the Spanish script will be digitized and will require data entry of the Spanish phases by the selected staff member. Computing Services estimates 1-2 weeks to finish this last phase.

6. If all proceeds as hoped, it is the intent of the TLC/Spanish team to have the new version operational for Fal12000 registration.
