BACKGROUND

This project will re-roof the upper roof area of the Quinn Swim Center area and replace failed flashings. Bids were opened on October 17th. There were five responsive bidders. The results were as follows:

The base bid was seven percent (7%) over the original cost estimate. Given the bid climate and current construction costs, staff and consultants believe this to be a fair price and recommend the base bid and the newly OSHA required ladder extensions for roof hatches in order to protect the roof worker. The ladder extension requires the relocation of the hatch in order to guarantee appropriate clearance of the sliding skylight. The State has agreed to fund its share of the base bid and the alternate.

The cost of the recommended bid is $136,092.00

ADMINISTRATIVE RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that the Board of Trustees ratify and award the base bid and alternate in the amount of $136,092.00, to B & R Roofing, of Oakland for the Quinn Swim Center Roof Repair Scheduled Maintenance Project.
