Bridging the Doyle - Raising Scholarships for SRJC Students
The Sonoma County community understands the significant impact that the
suspension of dividends from Exchange Bank to the Doyle Trust has had on
Sonoma County students - the distribution of funds from the Doyle Trust
to Santa Rosa Junior College has been suspended and there are currently
no available funds for new Doyle Scholarships for graduating high school
seniors, the Class of 2009.
Each fall semester, nearly 2,000 recent Sonoma County high school graduates
enroll at SRJC and received the benefit of a Doyle Scholarship of at
least $1,000. But this will not happen this fall. With double digit unemployment,
dwindling summer jobs, and fewer and fewer slots available at all colleges,
Sonoma County’s high school graduates are facing unprecedented challenges.
Through
the “Bridging the Doyle” campaign, members of our community
can help bridge the gap made by the temporary loss of the Doyle Scholarships.
Your contribution is vital to helping local students achieve their aspirations,
since they are our future teachers, firefighters, artists, mechanics, theologians,
farmers, nurses, scientists, and community leaders. By supporting scholarships
for SRJC students, you are also supporting the economic health and recovery
of our community. We urge you to be an integral part of the “Bridging
the Doyle” campaign so the dreams of our graduates do not disappear.
Helping Sonoma County Students Helps Our Community
Since 1918, SRJC has served as the community’s college by
being highly responsive to the county’s changing needs, fostering
relevant, high quality education, increasing the knowledge base of students,
and preparing thousands of students for the workplace.
At no other time has your support of your community college - and the
more than 36,000 students who attend SRJC each semester - been more important.
Donations to “Bridging the Doyle” will not only help thousands
of students become future Sonoma County workers, but will also help revitalize
the North Bay’s economy.
Keeping Frank P. Doyle’s Vision Alive
For nearly six decades, Doyle Scholarships have been offered to graduating
high school seniors in Sonoma County who were deemed “worthy young
men and women attending Santa Rosa Junior College” by the Doyle Trust
and by the Trustees of SRJC.
The remarkable outcome of the Doyle Scholarship
legacy has been the awarding of over $76 million in scholarship awards
to over 120,000 SRJC students over the last 59 years. Sonoma County’s
graduating seniors who would have received the Doyle Scholarship especially
need the community’s
support to attain a high quality education at SRJC. We need your help to
fund scholarships for these students through the “Bridging the Doyle” campaign
until the Doyle Scholarship returns.
