In 1995, under the leadership of then-Athletic Director Ben Partee, the Bear Cub Athletic Trust (BCAT) was founded. The first meeting of the BCAT committee took place on November 3, 1995 with Bob Salisbury serving as committee chair. With the help of some Bear Cub boosters, SRJC coaches and other college employees, the Bear Cub Athletic Trust Committee’s intent was to form an organization that would assist Athletics, Dance and Physical Education in various capacities, such as: fundraising and providing volunteer help for various department activities, while keeping SRJC alumni informed of events which would be of interest to them.

We are proud to state that over the last ten years, under the leadership of past chairs, Bob Salisbury and Rick Call, funds which have been raised through BCAT committee activities and events have been used to assist in the purchase of state championship rings, help defray the cost of new department web pages, provide video equipment for coaches and assist with costs associated with state playoff competitions for a number of our intercollegiate sport teams.

In addition, members of the committee as well as other boosters, have volunteered their services and countless hours in a number of significant ways:  helping with hospitality rooms, setting up and running concessions and gate, promoting merchandise at home games, planning events such as the annual Hall of Fame Dinner and helping to sponsor the Press Democrat High School Athletes of the Year Awards Banquet, which takes place each year in Haehl Pavilion on the Santa Rosa Junior College campus.

Future plans include the development of an SRJC Athletic Alumni database, as well as the creation of the first Bear Cub Athletic Trust Newsletter. Former SRJC athletes are asked to provide their information* to the SRJC Foundation office for inclusion in our Athletic Alumni database, by emailing rcutcher@santarosa.edu or soreilly@santarosa.edu. You may also contact the SRJC Foundation office by calling 707-527-4348.
