Linda Grebmeier, Arsenal 35 Artist StatementThe subjects that I see daily have become my imagery, be it the natural landscape, interior still life or industrial landscape. This painting depicts a view seen out the front door of my studio. In the Benicia Arsenal, the long walkways, spans of rooftops, and broadsides of immense ships offer me challenging subject matter. I focus on my visual experience, and my memory of it, while exploring rhythms of color and space. Concentrating on linear forms interacting with light leads the way to a painting about time and place. Teaching PhilosophyIn a supportive studio environment, students solidify technical skills, explore individual means of expression, and begin to understand the perception needed for expression in the Visual Arts. Through individual attention I try to inspire self-directed learning. Students actively participate in talks, peer discussions and demonstrations while developing a studio work ethic. They begin to learn that the exploratory process is the act of creativity, and that the resulting artworks are a constantly changing result. The diversity between students, with each bringing their personal life experiences, enhances the understanding that their creative process can shape all stages of their lives.
