Artist Statement

“The word truth, as applied to art, signifies the faithful statement, either to the mind or senses, of any fact of nature”  - John Ruskin

My work reflects my life experience growing up in the nineteen-fifties when mass media opened up the two-dimensional world to the public. Through television, family photography, school photographs and commercial photography the two-dimensional ideal person was created: a person without blemishes or emotions. My art is about transforming the two-dimensional person into a three-dimensional individual who resonates in my sense of truth.

Teaching Philosophy

My philosophy of teaching can be best described as the pursuit of three interconnected objectives: to inspire, to instill, and to individualize.  That is, to inspire a genuine enthusiasm for art, to instill a firm grounding of technical and formal skills, and to individualize my instruction to meet the needs of students at all levels of experience.
