September 16, 2008 -- Restore State Adjunct Medical Benefits Program Funding

The Adjunct Medical Benefits Program was created and funded by the State to provide medical benefits to adjunct faculty. The program is designed to pay 50% of enrollment in a qualifying health plan for any adjunct teaching a 40% load or more.

Over the years, while health benefit costs have grown dramatically, the State has never increased its funding of this program. This year, the funding has been reduced 12%. More than two-thirds of the community college districts no longer offer this medical benefits program to their adjunct faculty.

Please write to the Governor and to your legislators and tell them to restore the funding to the Adjunct Medical Benefits Program and to index this funding to State-wide increases in medical benefits premiums.
