What's New

The IT Blog is a good way to stay current on the latest information from IT including tips and tricks, maintenance updates, current outages, and more.

Update on the new SRJC electronic fax solution

As you may be aware, the SRJC fax system has been unreliable since the Holiday Break, when the IT department upgraded our phone system to a more modern IP-based system. Although we have implemented an analog/digital conversion gateway solution, an unsatisfactorily high percentage of transmissions were still failing.

This post is to inform our community that we have successfully adopted a server-based fax transmission solution, which integrates well with our IP-based phone system and fits into the District’s Green Initiative. We have, thus far, converted more than half of our existing fax lines. If you are still using the legacy analog fax system, please contact the IT department to discuss your workflows in order to deploy the new solution to your specific needs.

SIS Update

There will be an SIS update immediately at 12:00 PM today. If you are using SIS from your desktop or over Citrix, please close it and remain off before that time until I notify that the upgrade is complete. Those that are still on at that time will be automatically booted from SIS and may lose any work that was not saved.

Update on the SRJC Fax transmission issues

As you may be aware, the SRJC fax system has been unreliable since the Holiday Break when the IT department upgraded our phone system to a more modern IP-based system. Although we have implemented an analog/digital conversion gateway solution, an unsatisfactorily high percentage of transmissions were still failing.

This post is to inform our community that we have successfully completed a trial of a server-based fax transmission solution, which integrates well with our IP-based phone system and fits into the District’s Green Initiative. We will be contacting various departments to discuss their workflows in order to deploy the new solution to their specific needs.

If you have any questions, please contact the help desk at 707-524-1765.

IMPORTANT: Contacting the Help Desk via Telephone

Please make note that the SRJC IT Help Desk phone number is 707-524-1765 (if you are calling from a non-SRJC telephone.) If you are calling from an SRJC phone, you can simply dial 1765. This has been the help desk phone number for approximately the last 15 years.

IMPORTANT: Please DO NOT dial 707-527-1765. 527-1765 belongs to the home business of a community member who has filed a complaint with the IT Department. The community member is reporting that at least 2 or 3 Faculty/Staff have been inadvertently dialing that number every day trying to reach the help desk. We appreciate your attention to this important matter.

Annual IT Satisfaction Survey

Hello SRJC Community

IT would like your feedback to help us prioritize our activities and make sure we are focused on your needs as best we can with the resources and staff we have available to us. Last year your survey feedback indicated the greatest need was for more Help Desk help. We were able to add a second help desk technician and hopefully that is helping us to meet your IT needs more effectively.

Please take 10 minutes to give us your feedback. We use this information to help us with PRPP, Accreditation Standard IIIC and Strategic Planning. Thank you in advance for your feedback and inputs!

Email routing issue

Email routing issues are occurring with some SRJC email addresses. Looks like problem is limited to about 20 people involved with with an IT email testing project.

14:15 Update - issue resolved.

Web Server Maintenance on Friday, March 29

Greetings,

The IT Department will be performing maintenance on the web server that services staff/faculty personal web pages on Friday, March 29 starting around 9:00am. The maintenance window will run from 9:00am on 03/29/2013 until sometime in the afternoon on the same day. Once the maintenance has been completed, a follow up email will be sent by the IT Department.

During the maintenance window you will not be able to make edits to your personal web pages (www.santarosa.edu/~username) – if you have one. The pages will still be viewable, and there shouldn’t be any down time.

No other services provided by the IT department will be affected by this maintenance.

If you have any questions, please contact the help desk at 707-524-1765.
