Distance Education: Server upgrade and outage

On 2 January 2014, Distance Education will undertake the process of upgrading to new server hardware and software. The process will likely consume all day on 2 January, and might possibly extend through part of the day on 3 January.

During that period, all classes, sites, and services hosted on the Distance Ed server ( will be completely inaccessible and out of action.

That means no CATE, no Moodle, no CATE-based departmental websites, no online orientation enrollments, no import of grades from CATE gradebooks into the faculty portal, no import of grades from Moodle gradebooks into the faculty portal, etc. All this is equally true for faculty, students, and everyone else. For all intents and purposes, classes, sites, and services hosted on the Distance Ed server simply will not exist while we perform this upgrade.

Please plan accordingly. We'll announce via campus-wide email when the server is back in action and everything is up and running again. We apologize for this outage, but we expect much faster and more reliable service with the new server cluster. Thanks for your understanding and patience.

Day Under The Oaks Mobile Site

Day Under the Oaks now has a mobile web page for the public! This page is optomized for mobile users to get them information about Day Under the Oaks. This includes a schedule of the days events, an interactive GPS enabled map, and location specific pages for all activites in a given location. Use it during the event on a smartphone as an interactive pamphlet! Check it out on a mobile device:


Web Server Maintenance on Friday, March 29


The IT Department will be performing maintenance on the web server that services staff/faculty personal web pages on Friday, March 29 starting around 9:00am. The maintenance window will run from 9:00am on 03/29/2013 until sometime in the afternoon on the same day. Once the maintenance has been completed, a follow up email will be sent by the IT Department.

During the maintenance window you will not be able to make edits to your personal web pages ( – if you have one. The pages will still be viewable, and there shouldn’t be any down time.

No other services provided by the IT department will be affected by this maintenance.

File-depot service disruption on January 3rd, 2013, from 9:00am to 11:00am.

Seasons’ Greetings!

The Information Technology department will be upgrading the File-depot server on Thursday, January 3rd, 2013 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. During the upgrade, the file-depot service will be unavailable. Service should promptly resume after these hours.

Web services testing this weekend 11/9 - 11/11

SRJC Community:

The Information Technology department will be performing load and stress tests on the SRJC main site and the SIS servers Friday, November 9th thru Sunday, November 11th in late evening and early morning hours. While we are not anticipating any disruption in services, our web users may experience slow response time with our web servers. These tests are part of our continual effort to provide a smooth Online Student Registration experience to our students. Please contact (707) 974-5163 if you notice any disruption in service during these early hours.

Announcing the New Equipment Request Form


IT is pleased to announce our new online Equipment Request Form! This form both replaces the Desktop Technology Replacement Form as well as adds new functionality to request equipment for you or your department.

The new form allows you to request equipment through the Bond Measure A funds, departmental funds, or grant funds. It is also much more efficient and the process for requesting equipment will be much faster. You will also be able to check status online and the system will automatically E-mail status updates along the way.

IT Web Site Turns One

Happy anniversary to the new IT Web site which was launched one year ago today! IT has been continually improving the site after launch and we plan on even more improvements going forward.

Several new features in the past few months have been the completely redesigned Instructional Lab Web pages which allow students to see computer lab schedules, search for software, and look up lab details. We've also added the ability to include video in our support area to better instruct faculty and staff on typical computer issues. Many behind the scenes changes have also been made to the underlying code to make the site easier to use and allow for future growth.

Speaking of the future, we have some exciting things to add to the site in the coming months including a new IT Training site where we will post information about upcoming trainings and documents from past trainings. We are also planning a way to incorporate more student IT support into the site giving students the ability to look up support articles and link to various student technology portals.

It has been an exciting first year and we look forward to the changes ahead!

New IT Web Site Features

Welcome back summer semester faculty and staff!

We have some new additions to the IT Web site that you may be interested in. A brand new E-mail page that has new links to E-mail support topics. We also added a new password support page to aid in any password related issues. Finally, when you check out a laptop or an iPad, you can automatically add the checkout due date to your own calendar.

Welcome everyone! The IT Web site is officially live! This has been a months long process with many people in and outside the IT department helping to get these pages written, coded, tested, and approved. Congratulations to everyone involved!
