How to search your server home directory with Spotlight
Searching with Spotlight works great on the local hard drive, but what if you want to search for something on your server side home directory? Follow these steps to search your home directory.
-
Open your home directory in the finder. You can do this one of two ways. You can click on the dock folder labeled with your name (see figure). Or, you can go into the server globe labeled "Home" and drill down to your home folder.
-
Once your home folder is up on the screen, begin your search by typing in the upper right hand corner search box.
- As you can see, Spotlight automatically starts to search. Unfortunately, it only searches your local hard drive. To change this, notice there is a grey bar just above the search results labeled with different locations. Click on the location "Folder "username"" where username is your username.
- Once you select the new location to search, Spotlight will then refresh the search results to reflect the new location - your home directory on our server.
- This method can be used for any server folder.
