Windows 95/98 Dialup Setup

On the desktop, double-click on "My Computer" and again on "Dialup Networking".

Double-click on "Make New Connection"

Select "I want to set up my Internet connection manually..." and click Next.

Select "I connect through a phone line and a modem" and click Next.

Enter the SRJC dialup number here: (707) 524-1855. Unless you are dialing long distance or need to dial an area code, uncheck "Dial using the area code and country code" and click Next.

In the "User name" box, enter your user account name, plus ".ppp"(<username>.ppp). Enter your password, and click Next.

Enter a name for this Internet connection, then click Next.

The Internet Connection Wizard can attempt to configure your email and news clients, but we recommend that you do this manually. Select "No" and click Next.

That's it! Click Finish.

Right-click on the SRJC icon and select "Properties".

If you haven't already, un-check "Use area code and Dialing Properies". Click on the "Server Types" tab.

The "Type of Dial-Up Server" should be "PPP: Internet, Windows NT Server, Windows 98". Under "Advanced Options", only "Enable software compression" should be checked, and only "TCP/IP" should be checked under "Allowed network protocols". Click OK.

Double-click on the Speakeasy icon, and this screen will appear. For the "User name", enter your user account name, plus ".ppp"(<username>.ppp) and your password. The phone number should already be entered. Click Connect, and you should dialup and connect to the internet.
