Course Prerequisite Information
A prerequisite is a course or a list of skills
you must have in order to enroll in a class. For instance, you must have
passed French 1 with a "C" or better in order to enroll in French 2.
In some cases, a placement on an assessment test would also be a prerequisite to a course. For instance, the prerequisite for English 100A is the completion of English 355 OR placement by taking our English Placement test.
A Corequisite is a course that you must take along with another course. For instance, you must take Electronics 61L (lab) along with Electronics 61.
Here some important facts about prerequisites:
- All prerequisites are enforced at the time of registration.
- Prerequisites cannot be waived by anyone except the specific department.
- The college has the authority to drop students from any course if they have not met the prerequisites.
- There are two ways to deal with prerequisites:
- If you took the prerequisite at another school
or college, or at SRJC prior to 1981, you must file an Equivalency
Form (PDF: 16KB) with Admissions and Records. You can deliver it in person, mail,
or fax to (707) 527-4798. You must pass the prerequisite course with a "C" grade
or better or a "CR."
- If you believe you have the skills required
of the prerequisite but haven't taken it, For instance, you want to
enroll in French 2 and the prerequisite is French 1. You haven't taken
French 1 but you have been living in France for several years and believe
you have the skills to be successful in French 2. You can state those
facts on the Challenge Form (PDF: 52KB). You
can deliver the form in person, mail it or fax to (707) 527-4798.
- You can get the forms in the Schedule of Classes, Admissions and Records at the
Santa Rosa or Petaluma campuses, or download the forms from Admissions and Records
Web site, http://www.santarosa.edu/app/admissions/forms.shtml.
- After filing the form with Admissions and Records, you must wait at least 12 hours before you can register for the course.
- If you need help, call Admissions and Records at (707) 527-4511 at
the Santa Rosa Campus or (707) 778-3914 at the Petaluma Campus.
